<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Lawrence, KS (U-WIRE) -- Former Kansas basketball player J.R. Giddens pled not guilty to disorderly conduct and misdemeanor battery yesterday at the Douglas County Courthouse.

Giddens is charged with battery against Jeremiah Creswell, stemming from a May 19 incident outside of the Moon Bar, a now-closed bar at 9th and Iowa streets. Giddens did not appear at the hearing, but his lawyer, Deborah Vermelion, entered a plea on his behalf.

Judge Peggy Kittel accepted the plea and assigned the case to Judge Stephen Six. Giddens' next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Oct. 25. Before appearing, Giddens will have to be booked, which involves fingerprinting and photographing.</div>
