Gilardino: I'm A Fair Player

Despite being suspended for two matches for scoring a goal with his hand against Palermo, Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino remains adamant that he is a fair player on the field.

The Viola hitman has had a superb start to the campaign, and has managed seven goals from eight matches, even if one was scored with his hand.

He currently sits atop of the goal scoring charts, one goal ahead of Lazio’s Mauro Zarate with six, and two ahead of the likes of Amauri, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Goran Pandev, who all have five.

Gilardino was disappointed with what took place in Palermo last weekend; however he does not feel degraded in anyway, as he feels that, “I have proven in 10 years of Serie A that I am a fair and proper player, one that has always sought goals with loyalty.”

“I tried to score against Palermo with my foot, but the ball struck my hand, and I can assure you that it was totally inadvertently,” he added.

“I accepted the suspension with serenity however, as I have done with all things that have taken place in my career,” he concluded.

The former Milan striker has one match of suspension remaining, before he will return to face Atalanta at home next weekend. Before then however, the Viola will host Luca Toni’s Bayern Munich in the Uefa Champions League midweek.
