I know nothing about soccer. I know nothing about what league is the best (other than the MLS ) So, I'm basically looking for a young, up and coming team that is already looking good. I would prefer the team to be in the best league.
Well Tim, thats a very good question, and you will get a lot of different answers. I personally root for Manchester United, which play in the English Premier League, Bayern Munich play in Bundesliga (German league), then a few other teams in the rest of the leagues around Europe. My opinion is that EPL is the best offensive league, at times rivaling with La Liga (Spain), then you have Italian league known for defense and tactics, so every league has something to make them the best and they're all fun to watch. Who do you root for in the MLS?
You'll probably want to aim for an EPL team since they get the most coverage in North America. Its not necessarily everyone's favourite style of play, but its much easier to get into the sport when you can see games on a regular basis. Don't choose one of the regular teams at the top of the standings. They're boring.

Well to be honest I would pick a team which is expected to get into champions league football in the future, then you can't go wrong........ much.
Some promising EPL teams: Aston Villa Everton Portsmouth (my choice) Manchester City Google 'em and see what you think!
^ From that list, Everton has a few American players Tim, maybe you can choose them. Even the goalkeeper is American.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (tim @ Jul 21 2008, 11:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I think I'll go with Everton. Where can I watch them? I have a pretty expansive comcast system.</div> I have comcast as well, we get Gol TV which is channel 714 for us, and fox soccer channel which is channel 256. FSC has all the EPL games, like every weekend they show plenty games, most are live then a few are delayed.
It depends really, if you only have Fox Soccer Channel then you'd be better off going with a EPL team. If you have GolTV, then you'd be better with a Spanish la Liga team like Atlético Madrid, who have been monsters in the off-season transfer market. They have young players like Argentina's top striker Sergio Agüero, not to mention dozens of great veterans. They're going to build a new stadium, which will be state-of-the-art. Another good choice is Villarreal, nicknamed "El Submarino Amarillo" (Yellow Submarine). They signed NY Red Bulls' young American striker Jozy Altidore and have the incredibly gifted Italian-American Giuseppe Rossi. They are a pure mix of young stars and great vets. Unlike most teams, they don't beleive a superstar has to be designated as a leader (or captain in this sake for Josico). Other youngsters include Chilean midfielder Matías Fernández and Spanish international Santi Cazorla. They also have French great Robert Pirès among many others including Turkey's big hero from the EURO 2008 championship, Nihat Kahveci. The team is an incredible mix of foreign and domestic players. The choice is yours, but the EPL is not the best league in the World. Their fame is based off of four key clubs with international stardom and a few others scrapping the skylight like Everton and Tottenham. Also consider that EPL's 4th through 8th best teams can't contend with bottom dwellers (15-20) in Spain's la Liga. if you don't have GolTV, Everton is a solid choice. They have so much young talent to admire and look forward to.
La liga is the best league in the world, and have been for ages now. Americans tend to think that the british league is the best in the world for some odd reason.. I guess they like that their founding fathers have some great clubs? Who knows. Anyway id prefer to be a fan of a team i can watch and see live some of their games you know? That usually helps alot and you can really get into it. The biggest difference between the MLS and the rest of the leagues is definately how the fans literally live for their clubs, and cheer till they die. I personally love my club "los merengues" or Real Madrid FC since i was born there, and lived there for most of my life .
^^^^ It's basically because the EPL is better I would recommend a team like Fulham - they play some great football at times, but are sometimes bad. Keeps you on your toes. Or maybe Tottenham Hotspur, they are probably the team involved the the greatest number of exciting games. If you want to see goals, watch Spurs.
I don't think Spurs are a good choice considering how much their fans bitch and moan about every little thing. Also, stray clear of Middlesbrough, most of their fans abandon their team when they need them the most. I don't know about you guys anyway, but other fans count toward my support as well. I couldn't support a team that has a poor fanbase in terms of quality.
