Sounds like he's the one in the Calgary rumors. Stepniak perhaps too. I wonder if Minnesota would take on some of Heatley's deal?
Glencross is a guy a lot of us have wanted. I think his knee injury is keeping him out another 3-4 weeks
Don't like Stepniak and never have. Always liked Glencross. However, I would want at least a second rounder back for him in any MDZ deal, and they have to take Pyatt back. Glencross is 30, and is a role player. MDZ is 23. Glencross wouldn't have nearly the ice time here as he received in Calgary so his points would go down for sure.
Problem with most of these teams is they state they are all dying for puck moving defenseman. Yet, none of them want to offer up crap for one in a deal. That is why those teams suck year in and year out.
Here's some more fodder for the MDZ debate. I stole this from the comment section on another website discussing MDZ rumors. The guy makes some good points, although he doesn't discuss the business side of things and the substantial raise MDZ is due at the end of this year. Like it or not, that's gonna play a huge part in how this plays out. "Did everyone forget that just 2 years ago he led the league Dmen in +/- for quite some time? He finished in the top 5 I believe. He also led the Rangers D in scoring. Then he led ALL NHL players in hits in the playoffs before the Rangers imploded in the ECF against the Devils. DZ is only 23, has had 2 great years, and 2 off years (1 of which he spent mostly in the minors). He didn't have the luxury of developing for 3-4 years in the AHL like most Dmen, he was thrown into the fire and had to learn on the fly in the NHL at 18 years old. When he plays the way he can, he plays with ferocious intensity like he did 2 years ago when he hit everything that moved. He likes to throw his back into his hits in the defensive zone and routinely bodies players off the puck when he's battling them. This is what he is capable of, we all witnessed it. He's been unfairly assessed this year as AV put him on his unfamiliar side of the ice. He's also been a little confused because Torts wanted him to play like Beukeboom and now AV wants him to play like Leetch. Give him time to adjust, he has the ability to be a very good Top 4 Dman."
Great points, which is all the more reason to deal him. He should have good value around the league to get what we need, more scoring. And when you factor in the raise he will get this summer. And the young dmen we have ready to come up and take a spot at somepoint soon. And the fact that he has been up and down (just like that poster said). I think that is all the more reason to make a move. I have always felt we deal from a position of strength on MDZ. People try and twist my opinion into me wanting to dump MDZ at all costs, but that is not true. We are in a position of strength with him , and we should only deal him if we get very good value back, which I feel we will. And that contract situation coming next summer also plays a huge role in my thinking. With our team makeup, I just don't love giving him 4 mill per over 3 or 4 years. Just my opinion.
I love how everyone misconstrues what chuck is saying. Chuck..and even I to an extent are not saying DZ is useless. .he just not fullfilling his full potential and at this time he is one of a few assets that if traded doesn't destroy the team. In order to get the top end scorer this team needs you have to give up something. Dz is that something imo Especially since he is going to want a big raise. .one in which I wouldn't want to give based on two good seasons and two shitty ones. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
Nobody is misconstruing what Chuck is saying. Try reading and understanding what you read. This board has said all along that we need another scorer and trading a defenseman would be trading from strength. If you actually read, you would understand that what a few people on this board say is that MDZ is blamed for every loss when the reality is that there were a lot of defenseman on this team the first 10 games that played like total crap and never were called out by posters on this board. They simply blamed MDZ for everything.
Actually dump, with all due respect, you're the one who says certain people blame every loss on MDZ. I don't see any people really blaming every loss on MDZ. And I certainly don't blame every loss on MDZ. Now did I think he was playing like crap this season...I sure did. And guess what...SO DID THE COACH which is why he called him out and benched him for 3 games. And your comeback of this other guy isn't playing well either is weak dump. We aren't talking about another guy, we are talking about MDZ. If you want to talk about Girardi or Staal, we can do it. They both had their issues earlier in the season as well, NO DOUBT. But I am still not sure what the F that has to do with MDZ sucking early in the season.
Dump...didn't you just say in the other thread that defense played very well then went on to say DZ had one bad shift...you singled him out...or did i misconstrue that?
There have been posts about MDZ having the worst shot on the team (not true) and that he can't score (also not true), perhaps not from Al or Chuck but simply look at the posts if you need to know who said what. There have also been numerous posts suggesting trades to Edmonton involving MDZ for garbage or just getting rid of him altogether, those have been called into question by me. I don't care if the Rangers trade him for fair value, I would resign him all day but I'm not the GM just another poster. I think Chuck and Al have little objectivity because they don't like the guy which again is fine because we're all just posters looking to make conversation. Torts put half the team in his doghouse during his tenure including MDZ, perhaps AV put MDZ there too but the Rangers eked out 2 goals in 3 games, with MDZ back in the lineup 5 goals in 2 games. I think MDZ and John Moore are a strong pairing. The Rangers have 5 starting defensemen who are free agents next year so we are not as deep as we seem.
You would think thousands of our dense fans would figure out that if they stopped ripping the guy every second for mistakes that other players make on the team as well but never hear about, he would play a lot better.
In fairness, the value of MDZ is an offensive defensemen, so in those terms, yes his shot is HORRIBLE. this guy was supposed to be the QB on the PP. he was supposed to be of the quality of Brian Leetch. Now in fairness comparing him to a HOF is not fair. But , MDZ is not even half the player Leetch was. Right now he is the most replaceable member of the NHL roster. And can we also say that we are talking about posts made most likely during game threads..you know when you are watching the game in real time and with real emotion.
wow you of the multiple handles to dump players are saying we should stop ripping guys for every second? you make it sound like everytime this guy touches the puck MSG boos him. This isnt Sandis Ozolinsh for christ sakes
Are you talking about the fans or the coach who questioned him and benched him for 3 games? Not sure which one dump, so clarify that...LOL.
What you have turned this into is you hate MDZ and want to deal him no matter what. Instead of we need more O, MDZ has value, we have some depth on D in the system, he is due a longer contract and raise this summer, let's deal MDZ for a good solid scorer NOT just give him away. That is what this is all about for me. Deal MDZ from a position of strength and get a solid scorer back, not deal him from a position of weakness.
MDZ was not benched. Only morons believe that. He was sat because he was in trade offers. He played his best game of the season the game before they sat him. I'm not surprised you couldn't put together what was going on.
That may be the DUMBEST comment in your history dumb...and that is a PRETTY BIG STATEMENT...LOL. The coach knocked his play, he was benched 3 straight games, but not in dump world. My lord you are lost sometimes. You simply cannot say you were wrong. You really are sad buddy...LOL.
Hi, I am dump. The coach knocked MDZ, and sat him 3 straight games, because he was going to be traded. Funny sh*t. Yeah, most coaches take a shot at their player when they are trying to deal him right? And why didn't a trade happen over that week + he was benched dump? Give me a break dude. You can say it man...I WAS WRONG...LOL.
No, you are just that stupid. You have no idea how trades work. Players are often sat to protect them. Or, they are sat so that other players like a Falk can be showcased. MDZ basically covered up for Moore the entire game, the game before they sat him. As Panzer said, you have no objectivity with MDZ and your opinion can't be taken serious. You are still crying like a baby over his Devils playoff performance. At this point, nobody is taking you seriously about MDZ other than Al.
