<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">WALTHAM, Mass. -- Ryan Gomes has always had to prove something to someone.

At Wilby High School in Waterbury, he needed to show that he was good enough to demand the ball.
He did that, but then needed to show that he was good enough to play Big East basketball at Providence.

He did that, but now he faces the biggest challenge of his basketball career.

Gomes, selected in the second round of the NBA draft by the Celtics on Tuesday, must prove that the teams who passed on him in order to select whiskerless high school stars have made a mistake.

"It's kind of frustrating because I feel I held my ground against guys [like Emeka Okafor and Carmelo Anthony]," Gomes said. "Don't get me wrong, they said this was one of the deepest drafts in history, but I thought I held my own and this year had one of my best statistical years [21.4 points, 8.2 rebounds]."</div>

I sure hope that Gomes does prove Boston right. I would love to see him come out and play well his first season. But chances are that he will make rookie mistakes and say things only a rookie will say. Gomes had a great statistical year but I don't think he will sccomplish those kind of stats in his first 3 years in the NBA. It will take a while for Gomes to adapt to the NBA, but when he does he will be a great player. I'm looking for him to come to Boston next year hoping to learn from the veterans and coaching staff. If he shows a positive attitude and a will to learn there are no limitations to what he could do in the leauge. I beleive he has that great of talent.
