Here are a list of good young centers in the NBA and how they compare to Oden. I left out Howard for obvious reasons. Al Horford averages 1 more point and 1 more rebound than Greg Bogut averages 3 more points and 3 more rebound Brook Lopez 3 more points and 1 more rebound Bynum 5 more points and 1 more rebound Would you trade Oden for any of these players? I wouldn't........although I'm not happy about him not playing when the doctors have given him the go ahead.
Just curious what you'd say about Biedrins. I think he's better than the guys on your list (at least I wouldn't trade him for any of them) and he's very young still even though he's been around a few years. I'm not sure that I'd trade him for Oden though I'd think you wouldn't make that trade either. How do you think he stacks up against those others/Oden?
I was about to say he should be on the list. Very underrated player and at this point more productive than probably all the players on that list. I would take him over Horford without blinking. He's smaller than the others but he's damn good. I wouldn't trade Greg Oden for him because I think Greg can be a guy that is beyond numbers with his size and presence but he's damn good.
Oden's in his rookie season after microfracture surgery. He's gonna dominate soon. Of those, I'd maybe pick Bynum...but no one else is within the same stratosphere.
Atlanta is thrilled with Horford, Lakers are happy with Bynum (although have to be worried about injuries), Bogut just signed a nice contract (out for year) and Lopez is only one of 2 players the Bucks refuse to trade. We bitch about Oden but his numbers are decent compared to the other centers and that doesn't even factor in minutes.
Nope. Though you should have included Biedrins. Outside of Bynum, I'd take him over the other players on your list. I don't think any of them are very close to Oden in talent. If Oden does keep getting injured, that could derail him, but if he gets past these injuries (none of which seems particularly serious, long-term), I think he will be quite dominant. I think he's already out-playing the players on your list except for Bynum (who has much more NBA experience), when he's on the court. He's just having trouble staying on the court, due to fouls.
Biedrins should be on the list, yes. And why not Howard? And why not Okafor? And why not Jefferson? Jefferson's only 24. I don't know if I would trade Oden or not. He has potential to be great but we'll have to wait and see if he comes through. We can afford to wait. Our team is still pretty good without him.
Here ya go, I was trying to compare guys who have only been in the league a couple of years. My point was that his averages aren't that far off a majority of the good young centers and if you factor in minutes I would assume he would be near the top. Okafur- roughly 5 more points and 3 more rebounds (4th year) Jefferson- 14 more points and 4 more rebounds (4th year) Biedrins- 4 more points and 4 more rebounds (3rd year)
Kobe cut him off at the knees. Really undercut the poor guy. Wonder why Kobe undermined him like that.
I think is more fair to compare those guys to Oden in their second year (First is probably better still). Luckily, basketball-reference has a feature that does just that. Here is a link: The Comparison
If you like. I like to make my little jokes. It's all in good fun. I've already said I think Bynum will be a perennial All-Star type of player, so I think his future is pretty solid.
I actually know one Laker fan that was pretty brutal on Bynum this year but he is pretty much an idiot when it comes to understanding basketball. Yay for bandwagon fans?
