<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Drew Gooden's insurance agent is going to have a good Christmas.

After watching Denver Nuggets' forward, and free agent-to-be, Nene go down with torn ligaments in his knee last week in their season opener, Gooden thought that he needed some extra protection in case the same thing would happen to him.

In the same draft class and same contract situation as Nene and on the advice of his agent and business manager, Gooden bought himself a new insurance policy that will further protect him if he suffers a serious injury.

``It isn't something I really want to talk about, but I did get a new policy,'' Gooden said before the Cavaliers took on the Toronto Raptors on Monday. ``It cost me an arm and a leg, but you have to look at it like an investment.''

Gooden is in the fourth and final year of his rookie contract, which pays him $4 million this season. He'll be a restricted free agent next summer and looking for a big score, just like Nene.

Lloyd's of London and other indemnity carriers do big business in the NBA with teams insuring player's contracts and players taking out policies for themselves.

``It is the smart thing to do,'' Gooden said.</div>

If J-Lo can insure her butt with Lloyd's of London anything is possible. [IMG]

Why not? It's a valid thing to do, but I'd think players like Z or other injury prone players would have more reaso to do this. Well, maybe Z a couple of years ago. If you think about it, and injury could cost you sixty or seventy million dollars if you get injured early in your NBA Career. That would be 10-15 years on $4 - 5 million. Look at it like that and I'd want insurance.
