I got a bass this Christmas (Yamaha RBX170) and I've been having some great fun on it. I was wondering if anyone here plays bass, and if they know any good videos/sites/articles/eBooks that will help me get started. I definitely need to learn the notes, and scales, etc. Thanks in advance.
I have a bass and learned years ago, but already knew the guitar so it wasn't much of a jump. It's probably one of the easiest instruments to figure out. At the music stores here, they have posters that have all the scales and other information about music that is pretty much all you need to know forever... If you know someone else who plays, they can show you licks and techniques.
Yeah, none of my friends play bass, but I just ordered a scale book, and Bass Guitar for Dummies. Should be here in a few days.

One more thing...use proper technique when learning!!! This cant be stressed enough! You might find an easier way to play something but if you get better at bass you will find music you cant play because you have crappy technique! ...I know from experience
Thats good. You might want to consider taking some private lessons once a week for a couple months just to make sure you have the proper building blocks. A 1/2 or 1hr lesson each. Do some research on local teachers. Craigslist is a good way to start searching.
Yeah, I will look around. The only problem is that in the UK instructors tend to rip people off. I'll see what I can find though.
Find a college student who is majoring in music, just makle sure it isnt some schmuck...You will get a lot cheaper price than going to a music store where the instructor has to rent space to give lessons
