SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Philadelphia Daily News writer Phil Jasner and Kansas announcer Max Falkenstien were chosen Monday by the Basketball Hall of Fame to receive the Curt Gowdy Award given to media members.

Jasner started covering the Philadelphia 76ers for the Daily News in 1973. He served as president of the Professional Basketball Writers Association and earned a lifetime achievement award in 2001.

He was also president of the Philadelphia College Basketball Writers Association.

Falkenstien was inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame and dubbed the country's best college radio personality by The Sporting News in 2001. He's been a broadcaster for Jayhawk teams for 58 years, providing play-by-play and analysis on radio and television.

The Hall of Fame features a display of the winners of the Gowdy Award, first handed out in 1990 for print and electronic media. Gowdy, a longtime network broadcaster, was president of the Hall for seven years.

Jasner and Falkenstien will be honored during the Hall of Fame's enshrinement weekend in September.
