Grambling State's season went from bad to worse Wednesday when the entire team reportedly did not show up for practice. According to the Shreveport Times, the players met with administrators Tuesday to voice concerns about traveling by bus instead of plane to games in Kansas City, Mo., and Indianapolis and about the firing of coach Doug Williams in September. Sources told the newspaper that the meeting "became increasingly negative" and that the players walked out. They then did not show up for practice Wednesday afternoon. "[The administration] knew that emotions were raw," school spokesman Will Sutton said, according to the Times. "No matter what, it was going to be a challenge for the team to feel good after this season and last season. That's part of the reason why we have a new [athletic director] and are looking for a new football coach. "The president wanted to make a point that the university supports and appreciates the team and these students and that the administration will do everything we need to do for the future success of the program." Grambling players end boycott Naquan Smith and his Grambling State football teammates have no regrets about a nearly weeklong boycott that forced the university to forfeit its game against Jackson State on Saturday. Grambling players stood behind Smith on Monday during a news conference outside of the Eddie Robinson Museum on campus. Smith said the entire team was present and that the vote to return to the field was "100 percent." "The football team took a stance on what we thought was right," Smith said. "We did not quit on our university. There are many problems that exist and if no one says anything, nothing will become of our institution. We hope coach Eddie Robinson and his legendary players appreciate we took a stand and thought we were right."
