Gray did, however, make a promise regarding his NBA future.

"You know what you can put? I will be there someday," he said. "For everyone who doubts my game, I will be there. How's that?"

The 7-foot junior was still smarting from Pitt's 72-66 loss a day earlier. He'd gotten into early foul trouble, missed some easy shots and was whistled for a game-changing (and undeserved) technical foul.

Limited to just 22 minutes, Gray never had a chance against Bradley's 7-foot sophomore, Patrick O'Bryant, who scored a career-best 28 points.

Gray's parents, who'd traveled from Philadelphia to watch the game in Auburn Hills, Mich., drove to Pittsburgh afterward to spend the night with their son. The three stayed up talking at Gray's apartment. He slept on the floor.

"I really needed them," Gray said. "We didn't talk about basketball so much. Just life stuff. I didn't want to talk to anyone else, really."

Thank goodness Gray's parents headed home before the fanatics began dialing the local sports-talk radio shows. Somebody has to be blamed for every loss. This time, it was Gray's turn. </div>
