Who do you think are the greatest song writers?I think Bob Dylan is the greatest of all time. There are of course a lot that I like, but I just think that Dylan takes the cake. "Like A Rolling Stone" is perhaps the best song ever. He also had a ton of songs that were covered and that were popular. "Knockin' On Heaven's Door"-Eric Clapton, "Mr. Tambourine Man"- The Byrds, "All Along the Watchtower"-Jimi Hendrix, and "I Shall Be Released"- The Band are some of the best songs. Now Dylan sometimes doesn't come off with the greatest voice for certain songs, but he does write some great songs. For one, I don't really like how Dylan sings "I Shall Be Released," but that doesn't take away from the lyrics. I personally love The Band's version. Here are some other greats. Lennon/McCartney-The Beatles, Page/Plant-Led Zeppelin, Jagger/Richards-The Rolling Stones, Paul Simon, and Neil Young. What are some others that should be considered the greatest?

Bernie Taupin/Elton John should be in the conversation. Lennon and McCartney have to be #1.

Well I ain't goin back that far, so modern day...Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes is an amazing songwriter. Pretty well known, but not on the TV and popular side. Them and Brand New would be my rock choice.I know it's overstated but Eminem has to be the rap choice. He can rhyme something with anything and make it work. 2pac I think would be close with him, but I don't think he was consistent enough in doing it.Pop stuff I dunno, I'd have to include Dashboard Confessional in the poppy category. They got some great lyrics.
