...I find it hard to understand why the same people whose heart bleeds and who lobby for Rose for the HOF, don't also lobby for this guy; http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/14390306/the-hall-fame-case-tim-raines
Raines -imo- belongs in the HOF. Just his "traditional stats" alone are good enough for me and him being a contemporary of Ricky Henderson has practically nothing to do with it as far as I'm concerned, Raines' stats stand by themselves...and they stand very tall----but, I'm not thrilled about the disclosure of him literally carrying illicit drugs on his person during games.
Same here. Raines had a great career, 1,571 Runs Scored, 907 RBI's, a Lifetime .385 OBP, 1,330 Walks, with an excellent Stolen Base Pctg, with incredible speed on the base paths, and in the OF; .....and totals 5th All Time for SB's......... No doubt the marks of a great Lead Off Hitter, and a damn good Outfielder with sound Glove-work, a helluva range factor on top of everything else. Interesting trend, Raines got 24.3% of HOF Votes in 2008, but got 55.0% last year.......hopefully his stock will rise, enough to get the Nod...
Also Rob if I can add to that, over 2,600 career hits, 294 career Average. And only Henderson had more 70+ stolen base seasons with 6, Ricky had 7. Raines however did it for 6 STRAIGHT seasons.
Quit impressive. Raines in His prime, I'd dare say was as good overall in every aspect, as about any other player(s). Montreal seemed like a Farm Club for all other Teams, from day one, to their departure from Quebec....
