it was definitly a message to the knicks and to whoever ends up to be the #7 seed. I saw the part of the broadcast where they talked about penny's comments and I don't think he meant to diss the nets at all. he was basically saying that without kidd and kmart, they nets are weaker and an opponent has a better than normal chance of beating them. i can understand guys like rj and sweet lu and the guys who are playing to be upset and take it as an insult because they work hard and believe they have the skill and talen to beat anyone w/o our 2 all-stars and we have shown that we can win w/o jason and kenyon. i dont think that penny said that to diss the nets and to start a flame war, he would've prolly said that toward any team w/o their top 2 players. aside from that; penny we, as in kidd-less & kmart-less, whooped your candy ass. we score 108 points on a basically healthy knicks team, that shows something about our execution and the lack of defense the knicks have. when it comes down to it, we are a better defensive team and thats why we will beat them in the 1st round.... IF THEY MAKE THE PLAYOFFS and get 7th seed. they can possibly be bounced out of the playoffs and we play cleveland or boston or maybe the bucks or hornets will drop to 7. race is interesting. gg us
I've noticed Nets fans have been upset at what Penny Hardaway said before the Nets/Knicks game May I ask why? don't see anything wrong with what he said, infact K-mart summed it up very well.
Me personally I wasnt really upset. We do need K-mart & Kidd to beat them in the long run in the playoffs. But he should have kept the comment to himself. The other parts around Kidd & Martin are now developing confidence once again(especially Rodney & Lu). So when we meet them in the playoffs heathly, Penny will learn that we are alot more of a complete team than he thinks we are. But to me all his talking does is add to the interest of the 1st round matchup against them. During the Nets playoff runs they havent had that classic matchup or series. I mean the eastern conference final against boston in 2002 was decent but far from a classic. I think every team needs one of those classic 7 game series to make them a better championship caliber team. The Bulls had the knicks & Pistons. The Celtics had the Lakers. Maybe the Knicks/Nets can build that type of rivialry. It will make us better as a team. So let them talk it gives us more motivation going into the playoffs.
well we had that 1st round game vs the pacers where miller made a deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep 3 pointer and then drove down the lane to send it once again to overtime. i know it wasnt 7 games, but i'll always remember that game as some what of a 'classic' like i said before, i didn't have a problem with penny's comments but i can understand why the nets were. the guys that are playing have so much pride and confidence where we feel we can beat anyone(well maybe teams not named pistons and pacers) without kidd and kmart in a series. they felt it was a shot at their pride where penny was saying you guys are nothing w/o kidd and kmart and i totally understand that. but i don't think thats what he meant. it was a simple statement saying that a team without their TWO all-stars is easier to beat than a team WITH their two all-stars. our guys will use that as motivation, so thanks penny!

But nothing ever came out of that series, we havent met in the playoffs since. Maybe if they meet again this year we can build a legit rivialry. But the team that we would most like build a core rivialry with is the Knicks. Due to location. And because the Nets despite being back to back eastern conference champs dont get the respect that they deserve as being the best basketball team in the tri-state. Tri-state media & fans still focus on the knicks like its '94, Like John starks, Patrick Ewing are running up & down the court. Thats a good basis to start a rivialry. The Nets still have alot to prove to people in the tri-state. How are the Nets going to be ever respected as true world championship contenders if they are not respected in their own backyard as one? I really want the Knicks in the 1st round.
you know everyone wants Kidd vs Marbury. when marbury was on the suns, everytime we played them the media kept asking kidd and stephon about this matchup since they were traded for each other. they both said it was nothing, now the media might get thier wish. a playoff series, a best of SEVEN! in the first round (im going to really love the 5 to 7 games in the first round) would make kidd and marbury go one-on-one for 7 straight games. the nets really dont have a #1 rival. the closest are det and indy just because they are good teams. when boston had walker and the truth together, i thought that became somewhat of a rivalry b/c of kenyon shutting walker down in the playoffs and when boston came back in game3 i think it was. those were some pretty good games, but then ainge killed that mini rivalry. so it would help both knicks and nets if this can become a true rivalry, but i dont know how big it can become. you may call me biased, but i still think the nets overpower the knicks in basically every category. i dont think tim thomas is what he was advertised as when he was drafted and i thought they made a mistake by letting kvh go. i thought he fit in well with them, but TT i dont think is an upgrade from keith. but bottom line, the reason we are better than the knicks and will/should beat them come rd1 is DEFENSE. even w/o kidd and kmart we still play pretty good defense considering we are missing a shot blocker/reb-er and a pg who is the best def pg along with gary payton. if the knicks get the 7th seed, then its time to break the teams down position-by-position and get ready for a slobberknocker. i think that people say we are the better team, but they are in NY and it won't change (getting respect). the only way we can 100% get more respect than the knicks in the tri-state is to " win the whole f'kn thing " (quote from major league )

I remember at the end of 2002 season. Espn had the 100 worst trades in professional sports history. And Kidd for Marbury was on the list(I dont think it that serious). It was one of the 100 worst but alot of people at the time was going overboard because J.Kidd look like the best player in the league that year taking the Nets to the Finals. And Steph in the Suns missed the playoffs that season. So you know Steph hearing all the people upgrade Jkidd play while down grading his had to hurt. He has probably gotten over it by now.But Iam pretty sure its still somewhere in the back of his memory back. He going to want to go at kidd crazy hard. And be the player to end J.kidd eastern conference playoff dominance. But Kidd wont be quick to back down. So that good be one of the classic point guard matchup in playoff history, if the Nets & knicks met.
Yah I remember that Pacer series. I was expecting Reggie to pull up for a three but then he slashed his way to the basket. Kidd vs. Steph should be a great rivalry. It's like flair vs. substance. I'm not saying that Steph is all flair but when it comes to getting the job done, Kidd does it way better than him. A pass-first vs. a shoot first PG, who can lead the team to better wins? Oh and I'm not personally upset about Penny's comments. It was just a great win considering that Penny said that he'd want to face a depleted Nets. But then they kicked the Knicks' butts.
