Jimi hendrix was not that incredible. It was just better bc he played by sound. I would take a handful of guitarists over him.

Vai? Satriani? C'mon now. Malmsteen? Also don't get me wrong, I love BB King, but he is quite simply not that good. He had great tone and feeling, but skill wise he's just not up there. Ever heard of Les Paul? Ya old man can shred. John 5.

He was the guy that started it all. He was the guy that perfected it all. He was the guy that everyone looks up to. He's the Bill Russel of guitar. He started it all, hence the fame and the glory. However, I will name multiple guitarists who are better than him right now if you wish. In history, there are better guitarists than him. I see these lists, and I see Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones? He could write songs that related to everyone, but in terms of technicality, speed, and skill on the instrument he was nothing. Jerry Garcia? George Henderson? If we judge these guitarists by songwriting, I agree with some choices. However, if we look at overall skill: Songwriting, Speed, Technicality, Influence, Diversity, then some people are really way too commericialized :thumbdn1:

And yes, he did have some nice solos, but hundreds of artists could do something even better than is nowadays. One of my friends is just about as talented as some of these guys on the list were.
Page was sick, b/c of he started playing the double necked gutairHendrix was great too, but Clapton was unlike any other.
Love those double necks. Imagine how heavy that <Censored> must be. Gotta be a solid 15+ pounds. Possibly 20.
My picks are this.1. Yngwie Malsteen2. Joe Satriani3. Eric Johnson4. Stevie Ray Vaughn5. Eddie Van Halen6. Jimi Hendrix7. B.B King8. Carlos Santana9. Tony McCalpine10. Vinnie Moore.

If Yngwie is #1, Petrucci is #0. Problem I've always had with Malmsteen, is that 90% of his music is shredding. Petrucci can be jsut is fast, is uncomparably melodic, more diverse, better riffer, and simply makes better songs. Not to mention he's got that James Hetfield look going
Yeah but Dream Theatre gets a little bit annoying with being too melodic. I love the evil sound Yngwie uses with his rifs. Also I don't remember the names but the guitarist of the Scorpions and Dokken were awesome.
Thats why I love Dream Theater: That melodicness. It takes 10x more skill to create something melodic than to create something fast.
Carlos Santana, and from one of my fav. bands of all time ... SLASH! He is freaking awesome! How can you not mention him. Jimi Hendrix as well is awesome!
