<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">News Celtics rookie guard Orien Greene beat out Delonte West and Dan Dickau for the starting point guard job, according to the Detroit News. Views Dickau is a defensive liability and West hasn't shown the spark the team was looking for which resulted in this decision. If you are desperate for a modest source of assists, Greene could be a temporary option. We are skeptical that he'll be the long-term solution for the Celtics.</div> http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=fanb...nball&type=lgns
Love the decision (and the sig), can't wait to see what this kid can do against top flight competition. And as for long-term solutions, we'll see how this plays out. I'm not really leaning one way or the other, it seems the only way we get any better these days is through the draft, so whatever the fix is, it's coming in the future, not now.
Now only if Greene could hit a jumpshot. I really like Green I think he's a very underrated guy and he's making me like him more and more every time I hear about him. Im happy to see he'll be starting, I think he's capable of holding it down at PG.
it'll be interesting to see how things play out with Greene as the starter...I'm shocked (and disappointed) that neither Dickau or West stepped up their play...whatever happened to Banks? Is he injured?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Houston:</div><div class="quote_post">it'll be interesting to see how things play out with Greene as the starter...I'm shocked (and disappointed) that neither Dickau or West stepped up their play...whatever happened to Banks? Is he injured?</div> Yep, Banks is hurt, and it's a pity, but that's just the way things go. It's going to be rough for that guy to get minutes once he does get back (stress fracture, left tibia, all-star break at best). West played well, but not well enough, and Dickau was simply godawful. He neither earned nor deserved a spot in the starting lineup. His signpost defense and inordinate amount of turnovers did it for me. With any luck, we'll see Greene turn into a serviceable offense threat as well. It seemed to me that he got the go-ahead from Doc to show him what his offensive ability was like at the tail end of the preseason. Doc probably told him the job was his to lose, elsewise it became very evident to him, but he needed to see more offense from him. Couldn't agree more with that decision making process. Greene has a nose for the rim, but is less than stellar from anywhere further out than that. With any luck, he'll pick up some confidence from winning the starting role and make some good plays to start the season. From there, the sky's the limit with this kid. He's already proven to us that he's not to be trifled with, now it's a matter of cementing his role. With his ability, I don't see any reason that a leadership role shouldn't be far off, aside from seniority. He knows how to run an offense, and take away an offense too, no reason he shouldn't be able to show others too.
