The overreactions are hilarious in here. It has nothing to do with his MF; it's a ligament that may be strained and that doesn't bear any weight.

To me, it sounds like it's nothing more than a procedural issue as he has to be physically ready to play to accept the QO. He's not, so we sign a one year deal and next year he's still a restricted free agent instead of a UFA.

    I'm not seeing the downside.

Why - because they can find problems (with Darius Miles and now Greg) that the experts can't?

According to Storyteller, that's the rule from the previous CBA. I don't doubt that part was transferred to the new one.

Like I said, I think it's not terrible news.

If they have to rescind their QO, Oden becomes a UFA and he can sign with any team. At least that's what happened with Carlos Boozer in Cleveland. They had a handshake deal to have him re-sign for 6 years and he bolted.

Because they continually let players come back too soon from injury.

So is this the end of Greg? I mean, it shouldn't take this long to recover from micro-fracture right?

His doctor said it'd take 18 months for him to fully, 100% recover. He is at 13 months now.

So we could potentially have to offer him a multi-year deal without having seen anything from him in three years? That's scary.

If the Blazers unilaterally rescinded the QO, that is what would happen. It looks like the case here is that the Blazers and Oden agreed to a restructuring of the deal. Assuming both parties have signed the new contract, Greg isn't a free agent at all, restricted or otherwise.
