It is obvious that Jeff Van Gundy is trying to lay down the law in Houston. Rumor from the Rockets organization is that because Griffen having gone AWOL on the team, is considered to be on the trading block. Moving him would send a strong message to the rest of the team that Van Gundy means business and will not allow any nonsense. Granted his stock his considerably lower however he along with Mobley might be gone before the NBA season kicks off according to ESPN. If they can package Mobley and Griffen for a decent power forward then there might be a trade. Van Gundy has gone on record as saying that he wants to surround Yao Ming and Steve Francis with role players willing to play their part. It's sunclear whether Griffin and Mobley will ever buy into that philosophy. I think if we can get a solid power forward in return for these two then trading them might be worth wild. I have never been a huge fan of Cuttino's and my entire prospective of Griffin has changed since he went AWOL on the team. Thoughts?
The reason he has gone "AWOL" from the team is because of personal problems. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">This is the day that the family, friends and fans of Eddie Griffin dreamed about. They thought that they would be celebrating his return to his hometown for a game against the 76ers, the team he followed in his childhood. However, when the Houston Rockets hit the court tonight at the Wachovia Center, Eddie Griffin won't be with them. He won't be with them for the foreseeable future. And there is a chance that he might never be with them again. Griffin, 21, a graduate of Roman Catholic High School, is at an undisclosed facility in the Houston area, receiving treatment to deal with what a representative called "emotional problems." He has been there about three weeks.</div> Full story... I really feel sorry for the guy, as life is already hard as it is in the NBA, but now he has to face personal problems. Then for the Rockets not to pick up his contract is sad too, he is a pretty good bench player, and I'm sure that Philadelphia would be glad to have him.
hhhmmm...AWOL due to personal problems...justifiable? maybe...maybe not...after all...players have a responsibility to the team...but i pity the man...i can just imagine the problems that he has for him to go AWOL... but i also believe that he has to be traded...if someone would take him...but please...don't get a perimeter player...a forward would be nice...someone to help boxing out the other players so Yao can start getting those rebounds...
