<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Memphis Commercial Appeal - Grizzlies president Jerry West spoke with a somber tone. He's usually a deal maker by choice. But West acknowledged Saturday that Damon Stoudamire's season-ending knee injury has forced his hand. The Griz will immediately pursue a replacement for Stoudamire through trade or free agency. Stoudamire's season ended Friday when he suffered a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee at Portland. "We're going to be searching around," West said via telephone. "It would have to be a more veteran guy, and someone who fits in with what we're doing here. "We don't want to disrupt the chemistry. It'll be a busy couple of days here, that's for sure." Names that have been tossed around in the organization include New Jersey's Jeff McInnis and Washington's Chucky Atkins. Both players are said to be available because of their expressed desire to play elsewhere. The Griz also may consider free agent Erick Strickland or make an offer for former Griz Brevin Knight, who has performed well as a starter for the Charlotte Bobcats .</div> http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives...or_point_guard/
It'd be bizarre to see Earl Watson or Brevin Knight back in a Grizzlies uniform. I get the impression Knight's "trade value" is inflated. I may be wrong, but I think he's one of the top five leaders in assists per game. That's more of an indication of the team he plays for than the talent he has. However, I'm sure it increases his worth in Bickerstaff's mind. I'm also not too sure about Earl Watson. Beggars can't be choosers, but he completely turned his back on us this offseason for the apparent reason of a lack of playing time, and then he accepted a role where he'd only receive 19.6 mpg. Not to mention the fact that he's almost an offensive liability in the way that Stoudamire was a defensive liability. Out of all the options presented in the article, Jeff McInnis is the most attractive. He's probably dying to get out of New Jersey. I'm not really sure why he accepted their contract offer in the first place. How much time did he expect to get behind the best point guard since Magic Johnson? Anyway, salary-wise a McInnis for Jackson deal works, but that'd put us back where we started. The next closest contracts are the injured Damon Stouadmire and Jake Tsakalidis, who no one in their right mind would trade for. With that said, it'll probably have to be a package deal, and the most attractive one that I could think of was Lorenzen Wright and Antonio Burks for Jeff McInnis and Marc Jackson. Neither McInnis or Jackson has worked out for the Nets, yet the Grizzlies could use either one of them. Just so long as West doesn't decide to just stay put and play Antonio Burks 20 mpg, I won't complain much.

He's also a kind of leader that every team should have. His unselfishness and ability to get people involved will make him a perfect fit in my mind. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">How much time did he expect to get behind the best point guard since Magic Johnson?</div> What about John Sctockton?
I'd be over the moon if either E-Dub or Brev came back. Really adored both players, Earl for his work ethic and desire, and Brev for his brilliant playmaking ability. We definitely need a playmaker so B-Jax can play his more natural role, but we're travelling pretty well so there's no rush.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting saint:</div><div class="quote_post">what about Carlos Arroyo?? are just playing 12 minutes and very well</div> I like the kid but i can't see a suitable deal being done given who we'd be trading with.
I don't think you want the baggage Jeff McInnis brings with him. He's one of those players who really thinks he's better than he really is. The man is a class a jerk to the fans and teammates. The Grizzlies spent an offseason unloading players with character issues, so I'd rule out McInnis. If the Grizzlies can acquire Knight, they should try to land Ely as well. The Bobcats have been shopping him around as well. He could backup both PF and C for the Grizzlies and all the Bobcats want for him is a 2nd rounder or late 1st rounder.

On one hand we cleared out wankers like Stromile and J-Will, then signed notable wild child Mighty Mouse. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post"> If the Grizzlies can acquire Knight, they should try to land Ely as well. We need someone who can carry the ball and run an offence to ease the burden on Pau and let B-Jax go back to his favoured role. Don't care if that's a 20yo rookie or a 35yo vet.
