GSP won Canadian Athlete of the Year last year (2008), as picked by readers of Sportsnet.ca, one of Canada's largest sports television networks. He's in the running again this year and has a narrow lead over Pittsburg Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.

Eliminated in last week's voting were MLBers Jason Bay and Joey Votto, doubles star Daniel Nestor, NHLer Mike Green and Winter Olympians Christine Nesbitt and Alexandre Bilodeau. You can vote online now. Winner announced Dec. 14th.

Hmm what has GSP done this year? defended belt against Alves and Penn, thats pretty solid. What did Crosby do? Win the cup, thats excellent. I think my vote has to go to Crosby.

yeah but GSP won his fights alone, Crosby wasn't even the best player on the Pens in the playoffs, I'd say Malkin was.

They give it to GSP because they fear he'll kick their asses if they don't.

Keep in mind Sportsnet is a TV channel and the award was decided by fan voting.

    It is not official.

Haha two things I liked about that video. That bald guy trying to get GSP to shake his hand and what GSP said at the end, "I could have lost but I won"
