Gunman kills nine people in South Carolina church shooting

    Nine people were killed when a white gunman entered a historic African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina, and opened fire, the city's police chief said on Thursday.

    One other person was wounded and taken to a hospital, Chief Gregory Mullen told reporters about four hours after the shooting on Wednesday evening.

    Describing the shooting as a hate crime, Mullen said: “It is unfathomable that somebody in today’s society would walk into a church when people are having a prayer meeting and take their lives."

    He also said that an all-clear had been sounded after an earlier bomb threat in the area of the church.

    I keep reading that South Carolina has the most corrupt politics in the country. In the land of Clinton-haters, they keep reelecting their female Republican governor Nikki Haley, who has had affairs.

    one lone person who is bonkers. It does not at this moment appear to be part of a larger plot, or something that many people are planning to emulate.

    It does not mean it's not a terrorist attack, just that it doesn't feel like it's deep reaching enough to receive that label. If this dirtbag proves to be part of a movement or a larger group with murderous aims, then my guess is the terrorist term will be brought up often.

    I dunno. I imagine he'll be in seg until the trail is over. Assuming South Carolina still has the death penalty I imagine he'll stay there until death row. Not everyone goes out like Dahmer.

    took me a second also, but looking at it from the shooters perspective then they were forced immigrants. (not that I share that view). I think the patches on his jacket support that theory as they are of South African apartheid and Rhodesia.
