Guthrie a Royal Problem for the Detroit Tigers

The Detroit Tigers were on the brink of being swept coming into play Thursday night. The Chicago White Sox lost Thursday afternoon, and the Tigers could gain a whole game in the standings and avoid a big sweep with a win.

On Wednesday night, Bruce Chen shutdown the Tigers offense. Not allowing a single run in eight innings of work. Jeremy Guthrie — who has been outstanding in the month of August (2-1, 2.50 ERA), was looking to shutdown the struggling Tigers’ offense again.

The Tigers continued their trend of leaving runners in scoring position. In the bottom of the first Miguel Cabrera hit a two out single. Prince Fielder hit a single of his own to get Cabrera to third, but would not score him.
