This is a really interesting article where the author picks the halfway honorees in various categories, both good and bad. Enjoy. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Teams have played more than half of their regular season games, but the All-Star break traditionally is seen as the middle of the season. So, with the midway point last week and the All-Star break next week, now seems like an appropriate time for the midseason awards. MOST VALUABLE PLAYER The nominees: Baron Davis, New Orleans; Tim Duncan, San Antonio; Kevin Garnett, Minnesota; Jermaine O'Neal, Indiana; Peja Stojakovic, Sacramento. The winner: Davis. He leads New Orleans in scoring, assists and steals. He produces despite being the only true scoring threat on the team (before the return of Jamal Mashburn). The Hornets would be struggling to reach .500 without him. LEAST VALUABLE PLAYER The nominees: Vin Baker, Boston; Tom Gugliotta, Phoenix; Grant Hill, Orlando; Dikembe Mutombo, New York; Chris Webber, Sacramento. The winner: Gugliotta. He makes $11.6 million (second-highest on the team) but is averaging career lows as Phoenix embarks on a youth movement. </div>http://www.oregonlive.com/nba/oregonian/in...53769180580.xml
cool article...my personal halfway honorees: mvp = peja sojakovic - 3rd in the league in scoring, best record in the nba = mvp least valuable player = id have to agree with googs. 6th man award = antawn jamison, great off the bench numbers, i still think he should be starting most improved player = zach randolph, what bad can you say about this guy? what a great player hes turned out to be coach of the year - jeff bzdelik, what a turn around hes made...denver is competitive in the ultra-stacked west, and their go-to-player is a rook. rookie of the year - gotta go with bron, on numbers alone defensive player of the year - cant go against big ben
Laker Fever's halfway honorees.. MVP: Kevin Garnett- His stats don't lie. He should've been MVP for the last two years now, and look where Minnesota is in th standings. Least Valuable Player: Vin Baker. This guy has had so many opportunities to resurrect his career, but what does he do? He gets himself into trouble. 6th Man Award: Antawn Jamison: Once a starter, but is really adjusting to his new role off the bench. 15.4 ppg and who knows how much he'll finish with once the season is over? Most Improved Player: Easily Zach Randolph. Coach of the Year: I'd have to make it a tie between Denver's Jeff Bzdelik and Memphis' Hubie Brown. They both have winning records in the very competitive Midwest Division and they have their teams playing with tons of confidence. Rookie of the Year: LeBron James. And yes, the scouts weren't lying when they said this guy is the next big thing coming into the league. Defensive player of the year: Another tie between Ron Artest and Ben Wallace.
