This article is kind of a new take on obesity. The end result is the same, eat veggies, avoid sugars but the why is what I find fascinating. Personally Ive suffered from chronic digestive issues for years and was just recently diagnosed with SIBO, small intestine bacteria overgrowth. So even though I am not overweight this article really hits home for me and I can relate to a lot of what they are saying. Actually after years and years of discomfort and thinking I had everything from ulcers to crohns, it turns out all I need is a strong daily probiotic to over colonize the gut with good bacteria and crowd out the bad. The difference in my life has been amazing since I started probiotics, and very noticeable when Im off them.

TL;DR version: processed carbs and simple sugars are bad because they feed bad gut bacteria which causes micro flora blooms, which causes prolonged low grade irritation that causes the body to always be in defense mode and in turn hordes calories. The gut microflora is a very complex and diverse internal eco system that effects our bodies in ways we are just starting to understand.

Probiotics helped my digestion get back to normal after I quit drinking which had messed it up.

    They are expensive though.

I had ulcerative colitis and lost my colon in 2010. Life couldn't be better from a health standpoint these days.

Nice article. I have been taking Probiotics for the last 7-10 years now. They help me immensely with my lactose intolerance and regular digestion, etc. Although I am sure it would be an even bigger difference if I'd stop drinkin' beers and such. :)
