Moments like these, not military victories, provide the real encouraging signs for the Middle East and Islamic world. What that region needs more than anything, is a change in perspective from the group up. You've seen similar signs in Pakistan (the lawyers movement) and to a smaller extent in Iran (the student population), but it's awesome to see a Muslim-dominated nation collectively come to grips with the idea of a separate "mosque and state." Too often these countries go to the extreme ends of this scale, either turning into repressive theological states (Iran, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia) or secular military dictatorships (Iraq, Pakistan).

Now, I have no idea if this potential government will be able to survive or even live up to its promise. But the election results made a bit more hopeful, by themselves.

man this is fascinating. u have a billionaire running the most indebted country per capita in the world. so many questions he needs to tackle as well. how is he going to incorporate or marginalize hezbollah and the shite minority as well as iran? the christians are 40% of the nation and kinda aligned with him, so how he's going to deal with them? how's he going to hold syria at bay? how is he going to handle an increasingly bellicose israel? how's he going to deal with sunni militants? not to mention the fiscal crisis
