Calling himself "the missing piece,'' Donnell Harvey said Wednesday he will bring the tough-minded, defensive approach that the Orlando Magic lacked last season when they lost in the first round of the playoffs for the third consecutive year. Harvey, who helped the Florida Gators reach the NCAA Championship Game in 2000, signed as a free agent with the Magic after playing a supporting role in Denver last season. They are hoping he can play a role similar to what Bo Outlaw once did for the Magic for 4? seasons. "My only goals are to win the Eastern Conference and get to the NBA Finals,'' he said after spending the day at the RDV Sportsplex. "And I can help this team do that within my role. I'm back in Florida again, an hour-and-a-half away from where it all started, and it feels good.'' Harvey, who played just one year in Gainesville, was the 22nd pick in the 2000 draft, but he has been slow to carve his niche in the NBA. He made his biggest strides last season, when he averaged 7.9 points and 5.3 rebounds with the Denver Nuggets. "We need what he does well,'' said Magic General Manager John Gabriel. "And that's why we brought him in.'' The Magic will open training camp Tuesday at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex.
i think he will be able to watch that hole. he will definetely bring defense, toughness, energy off of the bench, which is what we need
