When Man Utd announced the signing of Henrik Larsson on loan from Helsingborgs, everyone was just shocked that they hadn't thought of it first. Probably the most shocked of all, was Martin O'Neil - Larsson's manager whilst at Celtic. At 35 years old, he's no spring chicken, but he showed by scoring the winning goal in the Champions League final last year that his years of experience still give him the edge over most defenders. Praise was showered on Fergie for what appeared to be another shrewd piece of business from the feisty Scot. Pundits and managers alike were in agreement that he would do a considerable amount in his 3-month loan spell to aid in Manchester United's quest to recapture the title. But, with his loan spell coming to an end, has Larsson succeeded in his first ever spell in English football? No doubt Larsson was brought in for his experience and raw goalscoring ability. United's attack consists of hot and cold Saha and injury prone Solskjaer. So cover was needed as a precaution if nothing else. But Larsson brings a touch of international grace. His eye for goal is superb as his goalscoring record clearly demonstratres. Their is also intelligence in the way he plays. Movement and space, his awareness of both and his ability to exploit both to achieve the best goalscoring opportunity. Not just as scorer, but also as provider. The statistics show 2 goals from 11 appearances in a United shirt. Hardly an impressive goalscoring record. Most United supporters were probably expecting a little bit more class then he has delivered - 2 or 3 more goals at least. But his temporary relief of United's strained front line has no doubt proved vital to their continuing form. Saha looks refreshed and hungry to finish the season on a high. Larsson's credentials were well established before he came to the Premiership, and his team performances for United in his short stint have only gone to further prove his quality as a top level model professional.
No and Yes. I dont want to be biased because the guy was my favourite footballer at one time but with being on loan at United its like he hasnt scored many goals or anything like he did at Celtic. I think he is more of an influence to the players of the pitch. In the training ground etc. I think also on the field he doesnt have the pace and sits too far back from goal so he has to hold up the ball alot of the time but Ferguson made a good choice to loan him because he maybe has just HELPED United win the league.
