I think will be big down the stretch of the seasons, but can you guys see the struggle they are having right now? I cant really explain it, but the two games the mavs are 1-1, but they have just looked a little different. When they get the rotations steady, and they all get used to them, i see the mavs being a powerhouse, but right now its i guess the growing pains...?

It'll take some time fitting in Stack into the rotation and Diop hasn't been active lately as he was earlier in the season.

Josh Howard's having an off season as well..Right now the team's doing better without him on the floor.(stats from 82games.com). His FG% has really slumped this year as he's shooting too many jumpers than working on off rebs and tipping in as he did last year. Same for Vanhorn. The team's doing better without him on the floor.

Player On Court +/- Off Court +/- Team Net +/-

    Howard +3.4 +5.5 -2.1
    Van Horn +0.1 +7.4 -7.3

Howard's having an off season? You are the first person to make that scoop.

The numbers don't lie my friend(check out the stats yourself). Howard's one of my favorite players, He's not as good this season as he was during last year. Both his defense and his shooting % have slumped big time. His Personal Fouls have gone up. He's not guarding his man well enough and having to foul him instead of making him shoot a tough shot.(eg., flagrant foul on kobe). Daniels has been much better than Howard thus far.

oh well. duncan's numbers went down last year and the spurs still won the championship, so yeah it would be alright if howard wasn't producing as much but the mavs would still be winning.

hmm you know all these mav highlights make it look like howard can take better outside shots now....eh, but idk

Percentages may be lower at this point in the season by a few hundreths of a percent, but Howard is shooting more and is expected to carry more of the offensive load just like in the third quarter of the game in Seattle last week when he dominated and kept the Mavs in it. More shots mean more misses, although I notice his 3-point percentage is up. Howard's had a tough ankle sprain and I didn't think he'd be full throttle until mid-January, but I haven't heard him complain. This is his best year from top to bottom. He's not yet an all-NBA star and may never be, but there's no team that wouldn't start him or at least play him for 30-35 minutes for his rebounding and disruption of the other team's plays. Your comments surprised me because he's having a great season, at least from my perspective and I listen to almost all the games; and the Dallas press seems equally enthralled. Sure he clanks a few jumpers but he hardly ever turns it over, rebounds with the best 6'6" players, and makes big plays in close games on the road.

I agree...josh does alot of things that dont really reflect directly in looking at his numbers. Im not disregarding your stats tracker and the validity of your statement, but he is vital in his contribution to dallas, and even this season...if it is on or off. He has been big, and behind dirk, probably carries the biggest responsibility of the team. Avery calls him his "superman" over dirk...he said it on his show on saturdays. I love josh, hes my favorite player on the team.

I agree with all your comments. Howard's definitely should be the second most important player on the roster next to Dirk..I brought up this debate in response to the original question on how good this team will be with the whole lineup healthy, but the way Howard's numbers indicate, Daniels/Stackhouse may deserve more minutes than him for the team to perform better. Howard's ankle injury may have definitely contributed to this slip, so as he gets better so will the team.
