well.... I love the Hawks and hope Sheed can get himself a fresh start...has to be a cap move because otherwise it doesn't make alot of sense.
Really, that's kind of weird, because Shareef and Ratliff shouldn't have played today, then. I guess I will believe it when it is on NBA.com, no offense AllNet, it's not that I don't trust you, it's just kind of weird that they would play right before they were going to trade them.
All you have to do is click the link buddy, I reckon the trade being confirmed on blazers.com should make you believe it.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting AllNet:</div><div class="quote_post">All you have to do is click the link buddy, I reckon the trade being confirmed on blazers.com should make you believe it.</div> Whoops, I thought the link lead to a local paper or something, I didn't click on the link. I just saw where the address led, and I guess I misread it. But anyway, I think it is a good trade for the Blazers, Atlanta doesn't benefit that much, even though Wesley Person is pretty good, and Rasheed would do pretty good in the East. But I see the Blazers as the winner in this trade. There lineup is pretty nice: PG: Damon Stoudamire/Qyntel Woods SG: Derek Anderson/Ruben Patterson SF: Shareef Abdur-Rahim/Darius Miles PF: Zach Randolph/Dale Davis C: Theo Ratliff/Vladimir Stephania That's a pretty deep team, I think that could get a pretty good seed in the playoffs. Now here's Atlanta's lineup: PG: Jason Terry/Jacque Vaughn SG: Wesley Person/Boris Diaw SF: Stephen Jackson/Chris Crawford PF: Rasheed Wallace/Obinna Ekezie C: Nazr Mohammed/Alan Henderson Their backcourt is good, in fact one of the best in the East, but the frontcourt is what we say.....lacking. Other than Wallace, they are struggling.
This was all about cap space for the Hawks, when you considering how big a contract Ratliff has along with Abdur-Rahim's It really does help their plans for the future. With this much coming off they can go after a good free-agent or two some time in the future. I certainly don't expect the Hawks to re-sign Wallace nor do I expect Sheed to want to re-sign.
only reason hawks did it was for the cash, because im almost certain sheed wont be resigned and will be a knick next year
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting knicks235:</div><div class="quote_post">only reason hawks did it was for the cash, because im almost certain sheed wont be resigned and will be a knick next year</div> Rasheed will not play for the MLE, It's very wishful thinking that he will play for so much less money. He is all about the cash...nothing else.

Meaning you can't be traded immediately right after a trade. Rasheed can't be traded for the rest of the year now, so he's stuck in Atlanta until the end of the year.
Good deal on both sides. The Hawks haved a boatload of cash here and will be a major player for anyone they want to attack in FA after the season. No way Wallace is a Hawk next season.
Yea, I agree that this was a good trade for both sides...the Hawks really need to start over from scratch...and i also agree that no way Wallace is a Hawk next year...this raises a few questions for me tho... Is Terry next to go? Are they targeting Kobe? And what is JBB going to do about the Hawks banner?
Everyone here pretty much summed up the topic. Strictly a cap move for the Hawks, and there's no way Sheed is in Atlanta next season. It will put some more fans in the seats, with an exciting move, and will give the Hawks a new interesting look. IMO Hawks are now playoff bound. NOT.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting notMuchgame:</div><div class="quote_post">And what is JBB going to do about the Hawks banner? </div> I would guess they would put Stephen Jackson on it and take Shareef off. Have fun with that, purehoops!

Anyone with money to spend will target Kobe, no matter what your plans are.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting King James:</div><div class="quote_post">Stephen Jackson is the man yes, I agree. Bye Reef!</div> Stephen Jackson and Rasheed Wallace=best inside outside duo in the NBA
Shareef must have been ecstatic when he got the call from Billy Knight saying he was being traded to the Blazers since he has publicly stated he was unhappy in Atlanta (can you blame him? haha). We all knew that Sheed was going to be traded somewhere, we just didn't know where, I don't think anyone would have ever predicted this trade to take place. I really don't think the attendance at Hawks home games will change dramatically. I'm sure for a few weeks it will slightly rise just due to the curiosity factor and the fact that the media will be all over this deal. Personally, i'd rather see Shareef playing than Sheed. This deal is just temporary, I think the real shockers will come in the offseason, I can't wait to see what moves the Hawks will make when the season is over. This was a fantastic move for the Blazers and i'm sure a lot more people will be paying attention to them now. Here is an interview with the Blazers president and GM: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Question: How did this trade come about and how long has it been in the works? Steve: John and I have been working since summer to ensure a competitive team that also gives us cap flexibility while ensuring players with good character. We basically just tried to listen the needs of our customers and our franchise and find a deal that worked. Question: Is this trade monumental for the team? Steve: This move is about more than just what happens on the court. After numerous meetings with our stakeholders it became clear that we needed to maximize talent and good character players. Question: How did Rasheed take the news? Maurice: I think it was hard for him because he has friends and family here, but overall he's happy. This was something that he wanted and it gives him more flexibility in the future. Question: Are you worried about bringing this new team together? Maurice: It's always a challenge to bring new players into the mix, but overall this makes us a better basketball team. These new guys give us an ability to play defense that we haven't had before.</div> More here.

We already signed Eddie Gill, and we might even keep Omar Cook. Sg is our weakest link, and I don't really see Patterson playing there except on D, I would rather see Miles there (which shows just how weak that position is). Dale Davis will Play Center, Stephania will remain on the bench. Lastly, I think that SAR will play pf when Randolph is out.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Trail_Blazer76:</div><div class="quote_post"> Lastly, I think that SAR will play pf when Randolph is out.</div> Is that really a good move to make??? They should develope Randolph in the starting role if anything.
