<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Dwayne Jones saga has taken one final twist. Jones is flying today to Minnesota, where, according to his father, he will sign a $1.1 million, 2-year guaranteed contract with the Timberwolves.

Jones, the Saint Joseph's center, was not selected in the June 24 NBA draft. Two days later, Jones announced he would apply to regain his eligibility and play one final season for the Hawks. The school had started gathering the paperwork the NCAA would need to rule on Jones' eligibility. That will no longer be necessary.

"During this week, the Timberwolves called," Dwayne Jones Sr. said. "They said, 'We're going to treat this kid like a first-round draft choice.' They went to extreme measures to make this happen."

According to Jones Sr., Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor called his son Thursday night to tell him just how much the team wanted him and to explain that what they had heard was true. There would be a guarantee.

A well-placed NBA source confirmed the deal.

Jones Sr. thinks that conflicting reports on his son's knees caused him to go undrafted. Jones did tweak a knee after the Hawks' season ended in March.

"There was a lot of misinformation about the injury," Jones Sr. said. Apparently, Minnesota, where Jones took one of his final visits before the draft, is satisfied that his knees are sound. He did not miss a game during his three-season St. Joe's career.

Jones finished last season fifth nationally in rebounds and blocked shots. Those attributes must have attracted Minnesota.

Minnesota drafted North Carolina guard Rashad McCants with the 14th overall pick and Indiana guard Bracey Wright in the second round with the 47th pick.

If Jones does sign a contract worth $1.1 million, it would be very close to what players at the bottom of this year's first round will get. In the new collective-bargaining agreement, first-round rookies get only 2 years guaranteed.</div>

Bad for St. Joe's but good for the T-Wolves I think, he's an NBA caliber defender, shot blocker and rebounder right now, he has no offensive game whatsoever though.

This is a good move by the TWolves. They already have a great offense and just need to work on their defense now, and it looks like there doing that. The TWolves were one of the older teams in the NBA with Cassel and Spree, but it looks like they will also have a couple of good young players on the team now. The TWolve seem to be trying to put all the peices together to creat an NBA Championship team.

Solid pickup by the Wolves. They've survived with very little from the 5 spot, and while Jones isn't going to turn into a double double guy, he's a useful defender and rebounder, he'll block some shots, he plays hard, and he's got legit size. There are a lot of teams who could use a 6'11", 250 lb 22 year old. I think that Jones will be a very average player, a role player and nothing more, but he will be an NBA player for a long time.

He'll mostly be competing with Kandi and Griffin for the 5 spot but Eddie is also going to back up KG at the 4, so Jones should get some good playing time. If Eddie doesn't return, he'll be even more valuable. We're very thin at that position and he'll give us a solid defensive presence in the post. Good pickup.
