The Hawks have a whole crop of SF's and if they had a decent pointguard that knows how to run the floor, I would think the Hawks would make the playoffs <u>EASILY</u>. I mean, they should try to get Brevin Knight from the Hawks, or somebody that's good and pass first... they would be the next SUNS.
If the Hawks get a PG that would really help them out alot, but 1 question is'nt Johnson going to play point, and isnt Salim going to back him up? srry if im wrong.
I think you ARE right, but that's a dumb decision. Wouldn't you rather ship someone out like Salim or Harrington for a GOOD point guard? That would easily make them a top team in the East.
I'm expecting Salim to develop into a legitimate NBA pg with his deadly 3-point shooting. Dude's also got handles. I'm pretty sure the Hawks will adress the pg problem if we still have one next summer.
PERFECT, that would make the Magic and the Hawks better, except the hawks would be one of the top teams... and I'm not even a Hawk Fan ... lol
Joe Johnson starting at the point? Nice in theory, but he doesn't have anywhere near the playmaking ability you want out of your starting Point Guard. He was played at the point a few times in Phoenix last year when Nash was out, and he couldn't handle the job. I'm sure it's possible that he can be molded into a somewhat efficient yet very average Point Guard, but why go through all that trouble when you can really utilize all of his talents and play him at Shooting Guard? Salim is also not a passer nor a playmaker. In fact, he also lacks the one quality that you'd want in your starting Point Guard, leadership. I'm not sure if anyone else on this forum follows college basketball like I do, but if you do, then you'd know all about his "attitude problems" that have even caused him to be suspended from the Arizona basketball team not once but twice. Had it not been for these problems, Salim probably would have been a first round pick. While he's very undersized for a Shooting Guard, the bottom line is that he'd be more effective playing there. I'm personally surprised that the Hawks did not make a run at Earl Watson in free agency. He's not the type of Point Guard that you'd expect to run the team, because of his lack of an offensive repertoire, but he was definitely the best Point Guard overall left on the market. If the Hawks would have obtained Watson and maybe made one or two more moves to get him a solid backup or some help in the post, then I don't see why the playoffs would be out of the question. Right now they're just a team full of raw talent and potential that's a year or two from being back in the playoffs though.
IMO Lue will be the starting point by the middle of the season. If Harrington is traded it will be for a C/F not a point guard.
As much as I want a PG, I want a big man more. Like I've said before Childress for Sean May would be a good deal. With Childress out of the equation it would make our logjam smaller and give us a bigger body who could play the 4 over Harrington and Smith. JJ is going to be running point for us if it works or not, because at this point our second best PG is the self-proclaimed best backup PG in the league, Tyronn Lue. Nothing against Lue but he seems to be more of an instand impact player because when he comes in he does things different from what I've seen so I'd rather have him off the bench. Were not going to get another PG because we have JJ, Lue, Salim, and Ivey all there and possibly Delk but I dont know if he's still under contract. Unless theres a trade theres no PG coming to ATL.

May is a better player in every way, maybe for childress and a future first. I think everyone both overrates Childress and underrates May.
^ you Really better be kidding. A.) childress is all-rookie 2nd team 2.) he is a 5-tool player. not many of those around. III.) may is totally unproven. plus, he's undersized.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I've suggested this trade 500 times... Childress for Jameer Nelson.</div> That trade would be Genious, it would let go of a PF(the Hawks got tons) and give them a talented young point guard, Good thinking Run BJM!
PF????????????????????? Josh Childress is a 6'8" SG, and can play stretches at SF but in no way is he a PF. He's rail thin, and the Hawks dont have a real PF on there whole roster. Harrington is better suited at SF, same goes for Smith and Marvin.

Agreed, the Jameer deal would be good but we can only dream. Jameer isnt leaving Orlando just yet. I think he's a part of their future plans with Dwight Howard and Vasquez if he decides to come back anytime soon.
I dunno. I'm a HUGE fan of Chillz. he can do everything. besides, I want to at least give JJ a chance a PG.
