It appears that the Atlanta Hawks will sign-and-trad G/F Stephen Jackson to the Indiana Pacers for F Al Harrington sometime on or after July 14th. For the Hawks, this has to be a great pickup. Al Harrington is a young, athletic forward with a lot of upside. If the Hawks can pull off a major upset and land Kenyon Martin, they will clearly be on the right track to rebuilding this franchise. Terry, Ivey (my boy Royal from the University of Texas at Austin, GO HORNS!), Harrington, Childress, Martin The only thing that could have made this team even better is if they had gone and selected a better player than Josh Smith. Wasn't there a proven senior point guard available at this position? What was his name? Unless they can lure a guy like Troy Hudson or Nick Van Exel to Atlanta, this team is several years away from making the jump from laughing stock to playoff contender.
I think Josh Smith was a great pick and yes this is an awesome deal for the Hawks there getting back on track. Harrington has more potential the Stephen Jackson in my eyes, he was one of the best 6th men in the league and Im more than sure he can do just that if not better on this team, he deserves a starting role.
Terry/Ivey Diaw/Donta Smith Childress/Josh Smith Al Harrington ? Not bad. Atlanta, a fairly unattractive basketball location (at the moment) have actually built a roster with a fair bit of upside, and if they play the same way they did at the end of last season, may surprise us. They should forget KMart with Harrington now on board.. trade a second-rounder for Big Z to round out the line-up (so the Cavs can make a run at Martin themselves). This move would give them a good starter at every position, and they could very well suprise us like Miami/Milwaukee did in 03-04.
