Speedy Claxton is having knee trouble — again.

Not the left knee he had surgery on June 20, to repair a small cartilage tear that cost the veteran Hawks point guard all but 42 games last season.

This time it's the right knee.

Claxton has missed the Hawks' past two preseason games with soreness in the knee and he won't play Thursday when the Hawks visit Charlotte. He'll be en route from Vancouver, British Columbia, where he was Wednesday getting a consultation on his sore right knee.

All teammates and coaches know is that Claxton is once again experiencing pain, a couple of weeks before the start of the regular season, and the team's point guard situation is once again in flux.

"Speedy's in Vancouver and other than that I don't know what to tell you," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said Wednesday. "The MRI came back clean, so I don't know what the severity of his injury might be. But we have to move on. We can't wait. Understand now, I'm still in Speedy's corner. We brought him in here to help our basketball team. But he's hurt. All we can do is treat him and bring him back whenever we can to help us out."

This marks the second straight season the Hawks have gone into training camp expecting Claxton at the point only to lose him to injury. Last season, Claxton broke a finger the week before camp, before his knee troubles began.
