• BIONIC MAN: Josh Smith continued his string of miraculous recoveries from injury. Just two days after suffering a left quad strain, Smith was back on the floor Saturday night at Bradley Center when the Hawks faced the Milwaukee Bucks. "I felt better [Friday], but I needed another day to be sure," said Smith, who was back in the starting lineup for Al Horford against the Bucks. "I don't know what it is, but I just heal fast." Smith had hernia surgery last season and returned after 10 days of rest. He was the first Hawks player on the floor before Saturday's game, and he made up for lost time with eight first-quarter shots. He made five and scored 12 quick points.

    • FENCES MENDED: Hawks coach Mike Woodson and veteran point guard Anthony Johnson mended whatever fences they needed to before Saturday's game, and Johnson was back in uniform against the Bucks. Johnson stayed home from Friday's game against Seattle after he and Woodson had a disagreement during shootaround practice before the game. But Johnson played the final five minutes of the first quarter against the Bucks in relief of Tyronn Lue, who remains in the starting lineup while rookie Acie Law IV recovers from a sprained left ankle. Johnson played for the first time since the season-opening win over Dallas.

Anthony Johnson isn't horrible, but he shouldn't be playing big minutes. I feel he needs to play a Derrick Martin type role where he mentors the young players and point guards. He can be in uniform, but he needs to only play garbage minutes. Woodson should be telling Johnson to help guys like Salim and Law with their point guard skills. To play him like this, is not something that can work out well if it happens to often.
