<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Now that Wake Forest point guard Chris Paul has declared for June's NBA draft, the debate is on. Do the Hawks, or whichever team wins the No. 1 pick, take 7-foot Utah center Andrew Bogut or the crafty Paul, a 5-11 floor general with video-game quickness and a flair for the dramatic?

    THE CASE FOR BOGUT

Seven-footers with legitimate skills don't come along often, so if there's a chance to take one with the No. 1 pick, there's no need to hesitate. But Bogut's long-legged predecessors aren't doing him any favors.

The memory lingers of Michael Olowokandi being chosen over Mike Bibby, Antawn Jamison, Vince Carter, Dirk Nowitzki and Paul Pierce in the 1998 draft. If Bogut is more Chris Mihm than a young Vlade Divac --- two players he's most often compared with --- the team that drafts him will pay for it dearly.

But if he's as good a passer as some NBA types think and as good a mid-range shooter as he showed throughout his player-of-the-year season and NCAA tournament run with the Utes, Bogut could be a franchise cornerstone for an organization desperately in need of some help building its foundation.

    THE CASE FOR PAUL

There seems to be little dispute about Paul's versatile abilities. Even his size --- he's generously listed at 5-11 --- hasn't scared anyone away.

With an ability to make shots from all over the floor and the charisma and savvy that only the best directors possess, Paul's upside would suggest NBA stardom. And the consensus among scouts is that he's the most gifted of a deep crop of point guards.

Still, there are some who aren't convinced that Paul has what it takes to become a dominant NBA player. After all, the list of point guards his size that have made the transition from college star to NBA superstar in recent years is a relatively short one --- after Allen Iverson, is there anyone else? And there's always the specter of a player Paul's size being a defensive liability against bigger point guards. </div>

I have said for a while now that they should draft chris Paul. Bogut though he probably will be the better player wouldnt fit with their current players and Paul would be a perfect fit at PG.

Damn Paul is really THIS good? I could swear the dude is easily taller than 5'11.Ive seen him play,I dont understand how he has a good chance of being the #1 overall pick.

I agree with GiantMidget on this one. The only way that Chris Paul should be a #1 pick is if Andrew Bogut, Marvin Williams, and Martynas Andriuskevicius all break their knees on draft night. I don't buy all this stuff about the Hawks not being a good fit for Bogut either. People act like he can't run at all, but for a Center he has decent mobility. Of course he's not as quick as Chris Paul, but he's a Center. Do you think Atlanta's Drobnjak is the quickest player in the NBA? Tom Gugliotta, James Thomas, Obinna Ezekia, Kevin Willis, and Jason Collier all play on the Hawks as well, and they're not exactly sprinters. In fact, there's only two or three players on the Hawks who I'd consider fast, but do you really want to not draft Andrew Bogut for Josh Smith's best interests? That's just bad logic.

As much as I think Bogut and Paul are going to be great players in the NBA, I think that Deron Williams is a better fit for this team right now. He's got NBA 3pt range, plays great defense, and understands the nuances of running a team. I think that he's the best fit for the Hawks. [IMG]

I didnt know it mattered if a player is a good "fit" when talking about the worst teams. The Hawks are terrible awful. They dont need someone who "fits" they need the best player they can get and hope he becomes their savior.

I personally don't see why he wouldn't be a good fit, and if he isn't, he's a very valuable trading chip.
