I am looking at cap hits for each player and I see that Hayes salary is .9M but cap hit is 3.75M, I am guessing because of bonus. So his cap hit next year given that he is RFA should be lower next year, correct? How come bonus counts against the cap? and is that per contract? meaning will that bonus always be attached to him as long as he is here?

Under the cap bonuses are still averaged out over the course of the contract to determine a players cap number. If they weren't teams could circumvent the cap by hiding salary in bonuses.

A 40 point or so season shouldn't break the bank with the next salary for this kid.

3 million tops would be my cap hit limit for him unless he steps up big time

Hayes should not get any more than 1.8 million. He's a third year player and he's sucked this season. He hasn't earned 2+ million. If he won't accept under 2, trade him. It's that easy. Start getting back some of the boatload of picks our dumbass GM has traded.

If Hayes wanted more than $2M trade him. If we lose him in free agency will we get any sort of compensatory pick for him?

Yup, lets trade a 23 year old second year player having a down year. Brilliant.

You're so lost 717 it's incredible. You completely ignore the flaws of every player on this team. I heard the same crap about Kreider at 23. He is on pace for a whopping 40 points . Stepan was suppose to become this 60-70 point player. Look at him now. He's on pace for 40 something, f'n points. Sometimes, you have to unload a young player to get back a return that will make your team stronger.

Business 101 question for you dump. Would you trade a stock when it's high or when it's low?
