Haynesworth Pleads Not Guilty

Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has entered a plea of not guilty in response to charges arising from a December 2008 traffic accident.

Haynesworth is charged with reckless driving and driving on a suspended license in connection with an incident that resulted in the 25-year-old driver of another car needing a hip replacement.

The plea was entered without Haynesworth’s presence in the Williamson County, Tennessee courthouse, and the case was set for further proceedings on April 28.

The Redskins signed Haynesworth to a seven-year, $100 million contract with $41 million guaranteed last month. He might end up needing a big chunk of that money to settle the civil lawsuit that is sure to come.

Under Tennessee law, reckless driving has a maximum punishment of six months in jail and a $500 fine. Under the other charge, Haynesworth could receive another 30 days in jail, and a whopping (eye roll) $50 fine.
