Welcome to the forum, OO17M. As for Marion, if we're trying to really make a playoff push it could be interesting to try to add him. I would lean toward not adding him because I want this to be a year of development including Wright/Randolph getting time at PF/C. I don't think we have enough to get Marion either. Assuming Turiaf signs we'd have 4 mil of space left which would help to take on Marion's contract. We'd still have to make 13 million in salary though and do a deal Miami would accept. Al Harrington, Kosta, and Belinelli? I dunno if they go for that. There just aren't many options that I see happening.
I am against trading for Marion too because as Run said, it would impede the growth of our youngins. I also don't think he is the missing piece as far as making a push for the playoffs and into the deeper rounds.
I don't think the Warriors should trade any long-term pieces for Marion. Since Marion is in the last year of his contract, it may be interesting to try to get him and have even more cap space next offseason. But the only thing I can come up with is perhaps Jackson and Harrington for Marion. I doubt the Heat do this, plus I am not sure if this would be that great for the Warriors.
Where would Marion play? I don't see how he comes here if Jackson isn't part of the deal. Neither Maggette nor Jackson is going to come off the bench so that's that. And what's up with the article talking about Andris or Monta in the deal?? Unless Wade is in there somewhere forget it! Anyway, I just don't see Marion coming here with the Maggette signing, even if the cap space could be found. What does Miami want with Al Harrington anyway?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (HiRez @ Jul 14 2008, 08:21 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>What does Miami want with Al Harrington anyway?</div> Replacement for Antoine Walker? The rebounding and passing wouldn't be there, but they get versatility and Al stays under contract longer. Al has his benefits, but under Nelson's system he is pigeon holed into a 3 point shooter. I wouldn't blame Nelson though because AH is just mediocre to terrible inside the paint against C's and PF's. He's got mediocre hands too, but at least the motor is there. Al never gave up on his own misses and he never got out of the way on defense like Troy Murphy.
Where would Marion play? I think the question would be, where would Jackson Play. I think people are extremely underestimating Marion's skills. I'd be ecstatic if the Warriors made a move and signed him. Baron was my favorite player in the league before the Warriors picked him up, and Marion is my #2. Everyone needs to chill on the "Need to develop the youth" angle. How many rookies actually get playing time in the league and make a difference? I'm not even talking about in Nelly's system. I'm talking NBA in general. The kids will learn a lot just being around a guy like Marion. I say go get him. Just my $0.02 Side Note: Oop, Is there any way you can shrink your Randolph pictures, I'm on a 12" screen and it throws all of the board out of whack.
I guess it will be interesting to see what happens. After thinking about the Marion situation, it probably wont be a good idea to trade for him. I can honestly say hes not the guy to get us any closer to a championship than Baron was. I think addressing our need at point is probably out #1 Priorty. If we can get Heinrick here in the bay, but that leaves questions in my head about how Monta, SJAX, and Maggs are going to work out in the lineup.
Yeah, we don't necessarily need an upgrade at the Forward position unless it's an all-star. Like, if we would have gotten Brand, that would have changed everything because that's a 20/10 guy who you can feed the ball to in the post and he can score against a double team. He is a defender, excellent shot blocker, rebounder, and #1 scoring option. What more could you want at that position!? But with Marion, he's not a #1 option. He is an explosive, high-energy rebounder and scorer, but he is not a traditional anchor in the post. He can't guard the bigger Forwards, and he has trouble with the double team. He is not a #1 scoring option -- he gets his out on the break, in transition, and on alley-oops and put-backs. Teams can game-plan for him and take the ball out of his hands with the double. While he would be nice to have in Nellie's system, he wouldn't be an anchor to take us to the playoffs. So I'd rather get a PG and save our cap space, if possible. Although Marion is a HUGE expiring contract, so at least that's very valuable to have for 2009-2010.
I would think that Marion could play the Pf position if he were added to this team without any subtractions (which is impossible): Ellis/Jackson/Maggette/Marion/Biedrins Marion can't be as bad as Harrington is at PF. The problem here is the passing. There just isn't really any here in this lineup. So I would agree that perhaps looking at some PG's would be the better route.
Marion should have been at least 2nd team all-defense, but he's probably never won because the Suns in the past didn't play too much defense as a team (as in most run n' gun teams) or Shawn Marion was out of position to be effective as he is at SF. If we could sign Marion long term I'd want him at small forward. If we had Mags at SG, it probably wouldn't be that ideal, but talk about 20ppg options who can hit their free throws and finish on alley oops. I guess playing undersized he would be more valuable than Harrington because Marion can also shoot the 3, and Marion has much better hands and ability to rebound the ball and finish over people. He's got quick hands, he's quick off his two feet, and has long arms where he can block shots really well. Plus, Clif's right. No passing. There's no setup players who can set the table for the scorers. Every team should have 3 (the guards and the center or power forward). Sjax has been our only secondary "guard" as he did what Dunleavy was supposed to do for us. Biedrins is a nice passer, but he's not in any position to draw double teams or really take advantage of the high post (he could, but the best high post players have Brad Miller/Zarko Cabarkapa/Clif Robinson range). Luckily, Biedrins is still young enough to show people what he's got before his upside is pretty much done. But Biedrins or one of the power forwards need to pass from the inside to out or play the high post game. That reminds me of what Randolph and Wright could potentially do.
