Let's try to figure out the minutes here.

    Goals:

Roy, LMA get around the same amount of minutes (around 36 per game)
Hedo is probably also there (36)
Rudy gets around what he got last year (24)
JB gets Sergio's consistent backup minutes (12)
Blake (or Kirk or Miller) gets same minutes as last year (30)
Greg/Joel split the 48 minutes, hoping for more from Greg, less from Joel.

    PG: Blake = 30, JB = 12, Rudy = 6 (or Roy if Rudy can't play PG)
SG: Roy = 36 (or 30 if he plays 6 at PG), Rudy = 12 (or 18 if Roy plays 6 at PG)
    SF: Hedo = 30, Batum = 12, Rudy = 6
PF: LMA = 36, Hedo = 6, Pie Chart = 6 (or Oden = 6 if we want to go real big)
    C: Greg = 30, Joel = 24 (or 30 if we play twin-towers a little bit), Pie Chart = 4

    Trade bait = Travis, Webster.
    Lesser minutes = Batum.

    Makes sense?

That assumes everyone is healthy. That's not realistic. Doing minutes over a whole season makes a lot more sense.

In any case, you have 54 minutes per game at center I think.

Not a fan of playing Batum less minutes

You are right about the center. Brain fade. Should probably just be 30 to Greg + 18 to Joel or something of that nature.

As for the issue of health - you are correct again, but I suspect that players do not want to hear that "they will have minutes when such and such goes down" - so this is an attempt at a basic rotation that gives enough minutes to JB and Batum to develop, gives Rudy about as many minutes as he got last year to keep him happy and keeps the stars and the big FA signing at 36mpg and the starting PG at 30.

Something gotta go. They do not wanna sign Hedo to $10m per in order to play him 24 minutes per game...

Oh please, a few years of 15 MPG isn't going to kill Batum's career. He's 19 for gods sakes.

I think you should have had roy as SF as well. rudy is not big enough (muscle/weight) to guard SFs.

There are 240 minutes in an NBA game. Assuming we are talking about a normal situation where everyone is healthy it should go like this.

    If Blake is still here:tsktsk:

    Roy - 36
    Aldridge - 36
    Hedo - 35
    Oden - 32
    Joel - 18
    Batum - 22
    Rudy - 30
    Blake - 16
    Bayless - 15

If a real PG is here (I will use Nash for shits and giggles)

    Roy - 35
    Aldridge - 35
    Hedo - 34
    Oden - 32
    Joel - 16
    Batum - 18
    Rudy - 26
    Nash - 32
    Bayless - 12

I didn't put possitions because the line up is pretty interchangable with all but maybe one or two of those guys being able to play multiple possitions.

If Rudy or Bayless are playing great they can take some or even all of Blake's minutes. A little bit of competition for minutes is good.

Hedo will reduce minutes of the 3 guard lineup when Roy or Rudy were playing at SF. But it will allow Bayless/Rudy to get more minutes at the 1 with Hedo at point forward so the opportunity is still there for them to earn PT.

Blake has to take one for the team. In fact, Blake should probably be traded to ensure that Nate isn't tempted. If need be, sign someone like Lindsey Hunter as a 15th man just to make Nate feel secure. But backcourt minutes not going to Roy need to go to Rudy, and to a lesser extent, Bayless.

Sigh. Maybe it would just be simpler if Hedo didn't sign with us...

I concur. If indeed Rudy is upset, and it's not just his agent stirring up shit because Rudy could be earning him more money if he came back to Europe, I imagine it's because he thought he could be the second "initiator" other than Roy and assumed that he wasn't being used that way because that just wasn't Nate's style. "Lucky Hedo," he thought, "playing for a coach who lets you do that." Now his team is TRADING for that player? That's got to burn. But Outlaw, Webster, Blake and Batum all have more to fear.

Which is why it's silly to sign him for that, because it's not what we need.

We need a backup PF and a starting PG. Nothing more, just like last year.

In the end, it may be a disillusioned Hedo who ends up in Rudy's spot, playing 24 minutes as a fill-in.

    Ironic.

I think the ability to alleviate pressure from Roy and being able to create your own shot was more important. Whether that came from the PG or SF position is irrelevant.
