I'm about to be gone for awhile and have questions about e-reader content. I have a Kindle Fire and iPad, and will probably have access to wifi almost daily, but not be able to just sit at a computer and read online content. I have only a rudimentary understanding of things like calibre and rss feeds. Do you guys just rely on buying amazon versions of newspapers/magazines and have them downloaded to the Kindle/iPad? Or do you download pdfs of the print versions from the paper's site? Also, recommendations for magazines or newspapers? I am trying out Current History and Foreign Affairs. I've liked Financial Times when I've been in Europe, but it's horribly rated on Amazon. I generally don't like partisan take with my news (editorial is fine), so I generally don't like US papers (especially at $20/mo). Thoughts?
I buy my digital content on amazon. Music, movies and magazines/books all download to my ipad and kindle and phone all fine. I find its the most portable solution.
dont bother with a newspaper/magazine IMO. Get the pulse app and get everything for free from various sources. I get a few digital magazines, they're ok....i would have said economist but I've found it pretty downhill.
iPad has iOS Safari WWW browser, so you can read any of the news sites you want that way. If you need to download in the AM and then read offline during the rest of the day, I don't have any real suggestions for news.
It's a little expensive, but we subscribe to the NY Times for the iPad. I'd say it is slicker, easier to use and more fun than pure browser reading and it's worth it to us (but it certainly wouldn't be for everyone.) If I'm looking for local news, I go to oregonlive or seattletimes.com and read on Safari (which works great). One thing I love is reading books on the iPad/iPhone. When I'm home, I use the iPad, but more often I'm out and about and I read on the iPhone. They sync up, so whichever I use immediately puts me on the right page. I'm reading books a lot more now because of that. Personally, I'm anti-Amazon, so I avoid it like the plague.
If you are looking for books, then the following websites may work out nicely for you. Btw, I get my content in ePub format. http://www.feedbooks.com/ http://www.epubbooks.com/
I've been in on the kindle since the beginning, and now have over 100 books and some pdf docs on it. But like mobes was saying, I love that I can dial it up on my iPhone or iPad and read as well.
If you have data access via your iPhone, you could set it up as a wifi hotspot for your kindle/iPad and access the WWW anytime.
nah, this one (and the next deployment as well) is desert time. Chairman and Commander-in-Chief need some help, so they call on a Navy reservist! Actually, the program's pretty interesting. Looking forward to seeing what I can do to help, and already excited about the type of training I've just finished in preparation.
Pulse is great on Android. on iOS I like Flipboard better. Feedly is also fantastic on just about any platform.
