How did the Texans acquire his rights? I was always kind of confused after Dallas traded their pick to the Texans for Henson's rights, anyone mind filling me in?
Probably because the Texans were/are an expansion team. If there were an expansion draft now, the 49'ers would have first crack at whoever came out... It's based on worst record/NFL regular draft order...
the texans drafted him i'm pretty sure he entered the draft after being released by the Yankees and the Texans picked him up inthe 6th round i think.
Yep, you're right. He was drafted by the Texans in the sixth round in 2003 before he opted to play baseball. They retained his rights since they drafted him. The Cowboys gave up a third round pick to acquire him from the Texans. That's looking like a bit of a mistake right about now.

The Texans did draft him in the 6th round, but that was long after he opted to play baseball. Rumors were that BB wasn't going to pan out, so the Texans took a chance. The 3rd rounder is looking to be a mistake for Dallas so far. As for the star RB comment, that's a little unfair. Otherwise, why would anyone draft a RB in rounds 1 or 2? If Henson did or does pan out to be a good starter, a 3rd rounder is hardly expensive.
