Well, this is going to be rough, but the difference is there should be no blame at all during these next few weeks. Paul Pierce is out and if you have been a Celtics fan for the last few years you know how much that affects the team and how much of the team he really is. We have not had many instances where The Truth has been missing and we are very lucky for that, but now we have to deal with it. He is out and to make it worse so are other key players like Wally and Kendrick. The five game winning streak was nice and things looked great. The Celtics were really starting to come around and they were still doing it without one of their better big men and veteran shooters. This loss, however, will be nearly impossible to overcome. Pierce is our everything and this team needs him to breathe, much less win a ball game. Obviously it could go a lot better and the Celtics could win some games, maybe even stay around .500 while Paul is gone, but that is not likely. The point is, while these 2-4 weeks happen right before us, there should be absolutely no blame on the outcome of the games. We can?t blame Doc because the team isn?t clicking or fault our point guards because the offense does not look smooth. We can only support at this point and watch the continued roller coaster of our season. The hardest part is I can see the Celtics teasing us more then ever. I can see these kids showing extreme flashes in the middle of the games to the point where you think we can maybe pull it off. Then will come the disappointment of yet another loss and we will do nothing but shrug and hope for a better game next time around. I am not trying to be negative at all because I am still excited for this team. Tommy nailed it tonight when he said games like this should be easier because you have nothing to lose. If Doc plays a wrong lineup, how can we be mad at him? If Gerald makes a bad pass or gives up an easy lay-up there is no reason to look down upon it. The kids will play hard and they will win a game here and there. Pierce won?t come back soon enough, but when he does lets all just hope it is not too late. Like it has been said everywhere it is your time to shine Gerald Green, but if you don?t, its fine, no blame will come from this writer.
I agree with you. I'm just sitting tight during this stretch. It is a little fun seeing (even tho I haven't actually seen) Green and Jefferson do their thing. I can see something like this happening at the end of the year too when the season is over but not officially over and we're going for ping pong balls, similar to last year.
I agree that these games are for lack of a better way to put it, less stressful than watching other Celtics games, because I'm not worried about winning; it's like watching preseason. As long as Al and Gerald are developing then I'll consider the games a success. It'll be great to have Pierce back and start worrying about actually winning games again, but for now I'm enjoying watching the future of this team.
preseason, that's a good way of putting it. I'm not sure who is even keeping track of wins and losses right now.
Good post tj, and I agree. I am all for watching these kids develope. These guys are supposedly our future, so why not watch these games and get a glimpse of what it might be? We've seen outstanding strides from Big Al, we have seen great strides from Tony Allen, we've seen outstanding flashes from Gerald Green, we have seen the consistancy from Gomes (although, not lately, because he is still hurt, IMO), we have seen Perk hold down the inside, we have seen Delonte West have a full successful season, we have seen Sebastian run the team, we have seen Powe get the dirty work done, we've seen Rondo absolutely wow everybody, etc. We've seen flashes of brilliance, but there is only ONE thing that will prove how good these kids really will be. That thing is time. People are so worried about our record right now (in everybody's defense, the record should be better than 10-17), but let's face it - this team isn't going anywhere this year unless a major move (trade) happens, and at this point - I don't really want a trade. I would absolutely hate to give up another Chauncey Billups, or another Joe Johnson, etc. And no, that is not saying that Telfair or Rondo will ever be as good as Billups, but it's saying that we don't know what we have yet. These kids need time to develope and "find themselves" in this league, ESPECIALLY the point guards.
