Saw this on real gm and when you think about it...its a def possibility. It was vs diantoni who everyone always says is teh perfect coach for sergio. Anyhow wanted to see what yo guys thought on this. Im all for getting sergio out of town as quick as possible.

Obviously--Nate clearly instructed Sergio to discover his missing outside shot, and convinced Bayless to turn the ball over at an excessive rate for the express purpose of inducing a trade with the Knicks.

Or perhaps Sergio just played better than Bayless tonight, which earned him more minutes. Nah--that's crazy talk!

I don't think so. I think McMillan considers Rodriguez the team's purest point guard so chooses to play him a lot of minutes on his own merits, not for some non-game-related motivation like showcasing him for another team or coach.

I highly doubt that "showcasing" happens in the NBA. GM's are in the know and every team has these guys called scouts that know everything about every player in the league.

If by "showcase" you mean he went with the best available option tonight, then yes, Nate was showcasing Sergio.

Look, one game isn't going to make or break Sergio's stock around the league, there are plenty of scouts for every team and I'm sure there's a decent body of work they have to go if/when he's ever offered or included in a trade package.

I will say this though, he may have put on a nice audition for his future boss ... he'd probably be a half-way decent backup on a D'Antoni team.

I don't think the Blazers were showcasing him. But perhaps, he was showcasing himself to D'Antoni. He pretended that he had a jumpshot today. I wonder if the Knicks bought it.

Why, that can't be true at all. Nate is stuck on his rotations, remember. He doesn't deviate at all based on who is hot or not. :devilwink:

I think he was being showcased tonight, hitting 3's (4 for 5) like no tomorrow. Why didn't he do that in other games? Who put a can of whoop-ass in his ass?

Agreed. I've always thought that the whole idea of "showcasing" was silly. Every team has several scouts and watch every game in the NBA and know whats going on.

    Yes.

    Sergio was horrible tonight defensively.

Bayless turned the ball over, but the team went up 10 as soon as he came in and Sergio went to the bench.

If not Nate should be fired immediately

Sergio was playing pretty well but I do think they might have been showcasing him.

Sergio really should go and play for a quick paced team like NY or GS. I think it would be best for both parties.

Sergio played well but came out of the game during his usual time (early first quarter). Bayless wasn't very effective yesterday, so Segio ends up gettting the bulk of the minutes.

In that kind of game, I think Nate is too busy trying to win the game to have time to think about showcasing anyone.

Yeah Sergio is not good defensively...but niether is Steve blake...let's be real here.....

and all of you advocating dealing Sergio away...just remember that he is the ONLY PG on this team who seems to know how to run a pick and roll with Greg Oden (or Pryzbilla & LA for that matter)...or who knows how to run a backdoor alley-oop with Rudy.....or set up a teamate up on the fast break...

but Blake can sure set up the offense real good...He hands that ball off to Roy on the perimeter with the best of them...

I wonder why people keep saying Bayless wasn't very effective?

    Sergio was a -2 and Bayless was a -1

Bayless came in at 5:56 and Portland down 1

Bayless leaves at :56 and Portland up 7

Second half Bayless comes in and Portland loses it's lead, but when Sergio replaces him they continue to lose the lead.

Bayless played 10 minutes and had 2 FT's. Sergio played 37 minutes and had 2 FT's.

There is more to the game than TO's
