In a Rose Garden announcement, Trump said he'll take "emergency executive actions" to offer relief to students, many of whom are dealing with shuttered college campuses because of the global pandemic. The coronavirus has forced a flurry of colleges and universities around the country to close or switch to online-only learning as a way to stem the spread of the new virus. At least 2.5 million students have been affected by the sudden action from at least 90 major colleges and universities. The Department of Education said Secretary Betsy DeVos "is proud to work with the president in taking decisive action to help students and parents during this national emergency," the department said in a statement to Fox News. "The president has waived interest payments, but not principal payments, on federally-held student loans until further notice."

White House Watch Trump Narrows The Gap Wednesday, July 15, 2020 President Trump has jumped back into the race and now trails Joe Biden by just three points in Rasmussen Reports’ weekly White House Watch survey. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds the likely Democratic presidential nominee earning 47% support among Likely U.S. Voters to Trump’s 44%. Five percent (5%) prefer some other candidate. Four percent (4%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.) A week ago, in our first weekly White House Watch survey, Biden held a 10-point lead over Trump – 50% to 40%. The new survey finds Trump with 79% of the Republican vote. Biden has the support of 76% of Democrats. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, it’s Biden 44%, Trump 38%. A week ago, Biden had a 12-point lead among independents. Trump’s traction comes from a shift in independent voters, who gave Biden a 12-point lead in last week’s poll. But the survey revealed another insightful statistic. Among likely black voters, Trump holds 31 percent support, up from 21 percent last week. Only eight percent of blacks voted for Trump in the 2016 election.
