Back in the day he was one of the biggest stars in Japan and the refs and doctors were always way slow stop a fight when he was getting torn up. He's only ever submitted once in his career despite having eleven losses, and that was his very first fight.
In the UFC you probably have to give it to the champ, Minotauro Nogueira. His wins over Cro Cop and Sapp are demonstrations in patience and pain absorption.
