<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">In the ORLANDO SENTINEL, Brian Schmitz writes “he offers glimpses of his past all-star self, a skilled craftsman at work. He looks as if he's enjoying the game immensely while shepherding his younger teammates. And moreover, he appears healthier than at any time during his star-crossed career with the Orlando Magic. Why, then, would SG Grant Hill even mention retirement? Hill tells the Sentinel that retiring is a viable option at the end of the season when his seven-year contract with the Magic expires.” </div> http://www.nba.com/news/341381.html Another article about retirment
I'm not sure how I feel about that I'm a HUGE Hill fan first and foremost, more than I am of Detroit or Orlando. The fact that he lost the prime of his career to injury/botched surgery has to bug him a lot. Given his production this season, it seems like he's good for at least another year or two. On one hand, I like the fact that he gets to play and continue his legacy. This guy was on pace to be a Hall of Famer (and according to basketball-reference.com, still is, with about an 85% chance of being inducted).. However people tend to forget about players when they dont end their careers on a high note. Also, he "owes" the Magic a few years of solid play if he can handle it.. And the fans will appreciate his staying at a low salary for a year or two. Not to mention the young players who obviously take to his leadership well. On the other hand, his ankle is a bad fall away from being crippling, and he does have to consider his health in the years to come. I wouldn't blame him at all for retiring now, just like I wouldn't have blamed him for retiring 3-4 years ago after almost dying. It just seems like a shame. But in the end, whatever he does I hope he gets recognized for what he was years down the road. This guy embodied everything the NBA should be. He was an offensive monster, had amazing court vision and passing ability, rebounded well for his position (and just well in general), and put effort in on defense. Also had no drama or locker room problems, and off the court is a modern ambassador of black history and art.

<div class="quote_poster">CLos Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I wouldn't mind resigning Hill for the league minimum actually.</div> I'm sure alot of teams "wouldn't mind" doing that

I don't think he would want to leave especially now that our team is continuing to improve and could contend for years to come.

Its just that clos' comment made it seem like Grant is only worth the minimum which I assure you if Grant wants more than the minimum he will get it.

Something tells me Grant is going to finish his career in Orlando. Even if another team would offer him more, I can't see him leaving. He will either sign here or retire. That's what it seems like to me at least.
i dont think thats going to happen...especially with the way we're playing...he's going to sign a 2-year deal for the vets minimum in order to win a championship, because i think by 08-09 we will be a favorite or in the top 3 for the title

I was saying that the Magic have gone through a lot with him with his many injuries and his PT. He should at least play for us for cheap. I mean he looks like a good guy and respects this organization. Unless, the Pistons might wanna sign him then he might go back there. Now that Grant is finally playing, we aren't struggling and are doing well. I'm not saying solely because of him but his consistent scoring helps us through games.
