''I put that on my shoulders, and I have to find a way where we can get off to a better start,'' Hinrich said before the Bulls wrapped up their seven-game road swing with a 106-95 victory Saturday against the New York Knicks. ''As a point guard, I feel that's part of my responsibility, and I have to do a better job.''

Bulls coach Scott Skiles wasn't about to disagree.

''In many ways, the last couple of years, he deserves a big share of the credit for the way we've been able to turn things around and play because of his tough defense and his hustle and just sort of the heart that he plays with,'' Skiles said. ''And he's been as guilty as anyone else of getting beat on the perimeter right now.

''I would agree with what he says, but I don't know what context he's saying it in, other than he has to be able to go out there and lock people up without fouling and start us on the right foot from an energy standpoint.''

The Bulls got off to a fast start against the Knicks and were effective on both ends of the court. They scored the first six points of the game and opened a 17-11 lead midway through the first quarter. The Bulls made seven of their first 10 shots from the field while limiting the Knicks' chances at the other end.

The Bulls led 29-21 at the end of the first quarter. Hinrich had four points and one assist, but his biggest contribution came in getting the Bulls started on both ends from an energy standpoint. </div>
