I just looked over the list of eligibles and thier are at least 10 people who deserve to make it to the HOF, however only 6 can get in. I have a solution, we take swann and namath out of the HOF to add to spots for more worthy candidates.

Thats true, but a look at his career numbers indicates that he wasnt even a good QB(much less a HOFer)....he gets a lot of credit for winning that one game, but he didnt even play well....no one who is in the Hall deserves it less than Joe Namath....

    1886 of 3762 50.1comp% 27663yds 7.4/att 173TDs 220Ints

Jay Fiedler has better career numbers....

Joe Namath is credited as being the most important player in the history/development of the AFL. His personality and flamboyance played just as much of a role in his Hall of Fame induction as his career numbers. He was one of the first NFL "on T.V." superstars and got the NFL a lot of press over the years...some good, some not so good.

You can ask almost anyone if they know who Joe Namath is and they'll know...whether they're a football fan or not.

    More of Joe's "resume" here:

More proof that Joe's image was important... Phil Simms isn't in the Hall of Fame. His numbers:

    2,576 completions
    4,647 attempts
    55.4 Comp %
    33,462 yards
    7.20 per attempt
    199 TDs
    157 INTs
    78.5 QB Rating

TWO Superbowl titles. Two Pro Bowls. An All Pro Title. Pro Bowl MVP. Twenty One 300 yard passing games. Etc. Etc.

Sorry, Phil... Joe's got you when it comes to the image thing.

What about Michael Irvin? Everyone's saying Hall of Fame for him... Should he get in on the first try, if at all?

I think michael irvin should get in on 2 things.
    1) his numbers are very good.
    2) his career was cut short by injury
700 catches in 2/3 of a career is enough

You make the call... Sharpe has just as many TDs as Irvin and just as many Pro-Bowls in a much shorter career. Irvin, on the other hand, has more arrests and more Superbowl rings.

Sterling Sharpe - 112 Career Games

    595 Receptions
    8,134 Yards
    13.7 Yards Per Catch
    65 Touchdowns
    23 Rushes for 72 Yards
5 seasons of 1000+ yards receiving

Five Pro-Bowls, Set the NFL Single Season Receptions record in 1992 with 108 receptions and broke his own record with 112 in 1993. Four of his Nine seasons he had 90+ catches and double digit TD catches.

Michael Irvin - 159 Career Games

    750 Receptions
    11,904 Yards
    15.9 Yards Per Catch
    65 Touchdowns
    6 Rushes for 6 Yards
7 seasons of 1000+ yards receiving

Two of his Twelve seasons resulted in 90+ receptions. One season with double digit Touchdowns. Five Pro Bowls. NFL Record for 11 straight games with 100 yards receiving.

I just hope Derrick Thomas makes the cut. Marino and Young are givens. Derrick Thomas' family and their endless barrage of lawsuits was beginning to unnerve me, but Derrick had nothing to do with all that mess. He was a grade "A" player and I hope he gets in. If not this year, I hope he makes it eventually.

That's my entire point about Irvin. If it weren't for the Cowboys' three Superbowl wins, Irvin's numbers would be "not quite good enough" either. He's not HOF worthy...

One of the most overrated receivers of all time = Michael Irvin
Worst NFL commentator of all time = Michael Irvin
