John Hollinger compiled a list of the Most Disappointing Players for this season, he compared last year's PER to their PER this year to see who dropped off the most. Along with Andrei Kirilenko, LeBron James, Mike James, Marquis Daniels, Ben Wallace, Antoine Walker and an assortment of others, Boris Diaw made the list. Boris Diaw 2005-06 PER: 17.31 2006-07 PER: 13.00 Difference: -4.31 <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Diaw showed up in preseason out of shape and got off to a slow start, but even with improved conditioning he's not making the same impact he did a year ago. Per 40 minutes, he's down 2.6 points and 2.2 rebounds from last season, but making 0.2 more turnovers. His blocks and steals are way down, too, a sign that perhaps his fitness level remains less than optimal. It's easy to say now that perhaps he was playing over his head in 2005-06, but I'm sure the Suns would have liked that information before signing him to a five-year, $45 million extension. </div> Source
It's clear Boris Diaw's production has taken the biggest hit with Amare returning to All-Star form. A few other factors contributing to Diaw's decline in PER was playing in the World Championships and coming into training camp a little on the heavyside.
It's one of the reasons why I was, and still am against the Diaw signing. Diaw was bound to decline, and paying him so much money for a reduced role wasn't the best decision imo. And even when he was playing without Amare, I still didn't think he was worth it.
okkkk...but do you watch the suns games??? the suns are looking for a championship, and everyone knows there role. amare is by far more unselfish than any previous year. nash now has the mind set to take a game over in the 4th quarter by scoring. diaw doesnt put up the number he did last year, but hes still playing good basketball.

Also the team added another shot blocker in Amare, so his blocks will go down due to that. When you have another shot blocker who plays at the same time as you, you'll usually get less blocks while on the court.
Diaw is a playmaker, of course his numbers are down AMARE STOUDEMIRE is BACK!. That doesn't take away from Diaw. Diaw's game is better than it was last year, especially as a playmaker.
he came into the season disapointing being out of shape, but just because his numbers are down doesnt mean hes disapointing. if you go just off stats sure, but there are many factors any logical basketball fan knows that so screw whoever came up with that pole, they obviously dont understand basketball. boris is a really good playmaker and creates matchup problems. oh, and by the way, its hard to call anyone on the suns a disappointment this year. anyone notice they have the second best record in the league? yeah, thats what i thought.
one more point about calling anyone on the suns a disapointment... they set not 1 but 2 franchise records in consec win this year. thats un freakin heard of. so either this guy who did the pole better hand nash the mvp right now, or he better pick some players on losing teams as disapointments. god damn moron

Like most things he based this strictly on stats, Diaw's PER is down, you can't argue that -- it could be for a number of reasons, but no matter how you cut it, his PER is down. I do think in the beginning of the season Diaw looked as bad as his stats, but he has picked up his game and is starting to rediscover his place on the team. I think Diaw deserves to be on the list, because it's a list based on numbers and his -4.31 difference (at the time he did the study) was one of the worst in the NBA. I think the use of the word "Disappointing" may be throwing some... I mean LeBron is on the list and he is far from "disappointing".
