Holt, pace uninvited to offseason program

As the St. Louis Rams continue to try to figure out precisely what to do with left tackle Orlando Pace and receiver Torry Holt, the team has figured out something not to do with them.

According to Howard Balzer of the Sports Xchange, the Rams have not invited Pace and Holt to participate in the team’s offseason strength and conditioning program, which opens on March 16.

Balzer also reports that Holt has heard from no one with the organization since former Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo became the new head coach.

But the Rams can’t keep them away, as then-Titans quarterback Steve McNair proved nearly three years ago. So unless the Rams plan to take a grievance that they’d lose, they need to be prepared to welcome with open arms two of the dwindling members of the franchise’s lone Super Bowl-winning team.

Since Holt is due to receive a $1.25 million roster bonus on March 17, his release is likely coming soon. But the Rams could choose to continue to squat on Pace’s rights for as long as they’re willing to carry his cap number; they’ll owe him no salary until the eve of Week One of the regular season.
